Phantom Blade Zero has become one of 2026’s most closely watched action games, and its latest launch details give players another reason to pay attention: S-Game’s lavish martial-arts RPG is currently priced below the industry’s modern AAA standard. The game will arrive on PlayStation 5 and PC on October 29, 2026, with a $59.99 Standard Edition and a $69.99 Deluxe Edition.

That price is striking because Phantom Blade Zero looks anything but modest. Its trailers present a rain-soaked world of assassins, conspiracies, towering enemies, and spectacular sword fights that appear designed to compete with the biggest action games on the market. Yet S-Game is positioning the game at a price point many players will recognize from the previous console generation.

Phantom Blade Zero Is Not Quite a Traditional Soulslike

The “Souls” comparison is understandable, but it also risks obscuring what makes Phantom Blade Zero distinctive. S-Game has repeatedly emphasized that this is not a strict Soulslike built around the slower, stamina-focused rhythm associated with Dark Souls or Elden Ring. Its combat is much closer to a high-speed martial-arts action game, with cinematic movement, aggressive offense, and elaborate chains of attacks.

In practice, that places Phantom Blade Zero closer to the intersection of Sekiro, Devil May Cry, and classic wuxia cinema than to a conventional FromSoftware-style RPG. The game still carries many of the visual signatures associated with the Souls genre: bleak environments, mysterious factions, imposing bosses, and a sense that every area is hiding a darker story. Mechanically, however, it appears determined to establish its own identity.

That distinction could be important for its audience. Players who enjoy precise parries and punishing encounters may find plenty to like, while those who normally avoid Soulslikes might be more comfortable with a game that prioritizes speed and spectacle. Phantom Blade Zero’s appeal is not simply that it looks difficult; it is that the action seems built around the fantasy of performing impossible martial-arts maneuvers with absolute control.

A New Gameplay Showcase Highlights the Game’s Biggest Strength

S-Game’s latest extended gameplay presentation offered an 11-minute look at the game’s combat, environments, and story setup. The footage focused heavily on fluid swordplay, fast counters, brutal finishers, and choreographed encounters that resemble a playable kung-fu film rather than a standard fantasy RPG.

That cinematic quality is not accidental. Martial-arts star Donnie Yen is involved with the project as the voice and face of Mó Yuan, and he also served as a creative consultant for the game’s combat choreography and motion capture. Yen’s presence gives Phantom Blade Zero a notable connection to modern action cinema, particularly for players familiar with his work in films such as John Wick: Chapter 4.

The result is a combat system that seems designed around movement as much as damage. Characters leap, slide, spin, and redirect attacks with a level of physicality that helps sell the game’s “Kungfupunk” identity. Several preview outlets have responded positively to that foundation, highlighting the combat’s rhythm, visual clarity, and emphasis on aggressive precision rather than passive defense.

Early hands-on impressions have also suggested that Phantom Blade Zero is more than a collection of flashy animations. Previews from outlets including RPGamer and Gaming Trend praised the responsiveness of the combat and the way its environments support the action. Those impressions are not final reviews, but they indicate that the game’s central mechanical pitch is already making a strong impression in playable form.

The October Release Date Comes After a Delay

Phantom Blade Zero was previously scheduled to launch on September 9, 2026. S-Game later moved the release to October 29, explaining that the additional time would allow the team to further refine the experience rather than ship while improvements were still possible.

For players waiting on the game, the delay is a mixed development. October places Phantom Blade Zero in a crowded period for major releases, but it also gives S-Game more time to polish the combat and performance of a title carrying unusually high expectations. A game built around split-second reactions cannot afford inconsistent input response, unstable frame rates, or distracting technical issues, especially when its entire identity depends on precision.

The confirmed platforms are PlayStation 5, Steam, and the Epic Games Store. PlayStation has also announced a dedicated State of Play presentation for August 17 at 7 p.m. Pacific Time, giving S-Game an opportunity to explain more about the game’s systems, world, and story before launch.

A $59.99 Price Changes the Conversation

The most unexpected part of Phantom Blade Zero’s launch announcement may be its price. The Standard Edition will cost $59.99, while the Deluxe Edition is listed at $69.99. The latter includes a digital artbook, the soundtrack, and additional in-game costumes and accessories.

That makes the Standard Edition $10 cheaper than the $70 price that has become common for many high-profile console releases. The difference may not sound enormous, but it is meaningful in a year packed with expensive games competing for players’ attention. A lower entry price could make Phantom Blade Zero easier to recommend to curious players who are intrigued by the visuals but still uncertain about the unusual combat direction.

It also gives S-Game a chance to present itself as a developer willing to compete on value. Phantom Blade Zero has the production scale of a major action RPG, yet its pricing does not immediately place it alongside the most expensive premium releases. That could be especially appealing to PC players, who have increasingly come to expect aggressive pricing, frequent discounts, and meaningful editions rather than automatic upgrades at launch.

Of course, the price alone will not determine whether Phantom Blade Zero succeeds. The final game still needs to deliver on its combat, maintain a consistent performance profile, and provide enough variety beyond the showcase encounters. But the lower launch cost removes one obvious barrier and allows the game’s strongest argument—its spectacular martial-arts action—to take center stage.

S-Game’s Biggest Test Is Turning Spectacle Into Substance

Phantom Blade Zero already has a clear visual identity, an unusual combat philosophy, and enough stylish footage to stand apart from the crowded action-RPG field. Its challenge now is proving that the elegance seen in trailers remains satisfying over an entire campaign.

If S-Game can support its choreography with meaningful progression, memorable boss design, varied encounters, and a story capable of matching the atmosphere, Phantom Blade Zero could become one of the year’s breakout action games. It may not be a Soulslike in the traditional sense, but that could ultimately be its greatest advantage.

For now, the combination of a confirmed October 29 release date, a surprisingly accessible $59.99 standard price, and a combat system shaped by genuine martial-arts expertise makes Phantom Blade Zero one of the most compelling games left on the 2026 calendar. The August State of Play should reveal whether the finished experience can match the promise of its breathtaking demonstrations.
