Tamashii Nations is expanding its modern Dragon Ball Z display lineup with two highly anticipated S.H.Figuarts releases: Vegeta in his Android/Cell Arc battle outfit and Trunks in his classic tank top look. Both figures are designed to represent the Z-Fighters-era character designs, making the announcement especially relevant for collectors building a coordinated Dragon Ball Z shelf rather than collecting isolated character variants.

The pair will open for pre-order on September 1, 2026, at 4:00 p.m. JST. Trunks is scheduled for release in March 2027 at ¥8,800, while Vegeta follows in April 2027 at ¥4,400. Japanese retail pricing includes tax, and international availability and pricing may vary by region.

Vegeta Brings a Much-Needed Base-Form Option

Vegeta is based on the outfit he wears during the Android and Cell arcs, with Tamashii Nations specifically highlighting the figure’s anime-inspired proportions, hair volume, facial expressions, and newly sculpted elements. Standing approximately 135mm tall, the figure uses PVC and ABS construction and incorporates the refined articulation system associated with more recent S.H.Figuarts Dragon Ball releases.

The most notable engineering feature is the inclusion of Tamashii Nations’ “Dynamic-Movable Shoulder System.” On paper, that should give Vegeta a wider range of movement through the upper torso and shoulders, an important consideration for recreating his signature crossed-arm stance, aggressive combat poses, and energy-attack gestures.

Vegeta includes three interchangeable expression parts, four pairs of interchangeable hands, a replacement head part, interchangeable folded arms, and replacement foot parts for both sides. The folded-arm option is particularly welcome because it allows the figure to achieve one of Vegeta’s most recognizable character poses without relying on awkwardly posed individual hands.

At ¥4,400, Vegeta is also positioned as the more accessible half of the announcement. That price does not make the release a guaranteed bargain, but it does make the figure easier to justify for collectors who want an updated base-form Vegeta without committing to a premium event-exclusive package.

Trunks Is Built for Character Posing and Display Variety

Trunks stands approximately 140mm tall and comes with a considerably larger accessory selection. His set includes the main figure, six pairs of interchangeable hands, four interchangeable expression parts, two interchangeable heads, replacement thigh parts for the trousers, and his sword with scabbard.

The alternate thigh pieces are one of the release’s most practical features. They allow the figure to recreate Trunks with his hands either inside or outside his pockets, a small but significant detail for collectors who want the relaxed, confident stance associated with his opening-era appearance. The two windblown hair options further expand the display possibilities, helping recreate more dynamic scenes instead of limiting the figure to a single neutral presentation.

Tamashii Nations also confirms compatibility between this Trunks and the separately sold S.H.Figuarts Super Saiyan Trunks—The Boy from the Future—in terms of head and facial-expression parts. That compatibility gives existing collectors an opportunity to mix and match components across versions, potentially creating a more customized interpretation of Trunks’ appearances.

The release is listed as a first-press limited edition and includes the Z-Fighters Gathering Base B. This is part of a larger display concept, with the previously announced S.H.Figuarts Son Gohan from the Z-Fighters lineup including Gathering Base A. Future releases may add additional base components, allowing collectors to assemble a larger group display.

A Stronger Focus on the Z-Fighters as a Team

What makes these announcements notable is not simply that Vegeta and Trunks are receiving new figures. The designs appear intended to work as part of a unified Z-Fighters presentation, reflecting the visual language of the team during the opening and early Android/Cell Arc period.

For collectors, coordinated styling can matter as much as individual sculpt quality. The matching scale range, period-specific costumes, and shared display-base concept give these releases more shelf purpose than another standalone Super Saiyan variant. Vegeta’s compact 135mm height also appears consistent with the character’s generally shorter stature, while Trunks’ approximately 140mm height should help preserve the intended relationship between the two figures.

Trunks is likely to appeal most to collectors who value accessory-driven posing. The sword, pocket configurations, multiple heads, and windblown hair parts give him a broad range of display options. Vegeta, by contrast, is a more focused release, with his appeal centered on the updated sculpt, new articulation structure, facial expressions, and the ability to finally present him in a clean base-form Android/Cell Arc configuration.

Collector Value and Open Questions

Because both figures are scheduled for 2027, there are currently no hands-on reviews or finalized production samples available to assess joint tolerances, paint consistency, balance, or the durability of the interchangeable parts. The official photography presents a strong early impression, but collectors should reserve judgment on final execution until review samples and retail copies begin circulating.

Trunks’ ¥8,800 price is considerably higher than Vegeta’s, though the difference is partly explained by the expanded accessory package and the included Gathering Base B. The limited first-press base may be attractive to completionists, particularly those already invested in the Z-Fighters display system, but collectors who are not interested in the group-base concept may view the premium differently.

There is also a strategic question surrounding the lineup. Collectors who already own earlier versions of these characters will need to decide whether the new designs offer enough improvement in proportions, articulation, and facial likeness to justify replacement. For newer collectors, however, both releases look like logical entry points into a more cohesive Android/Cell Arc display.

Collector verdict: Vegeta is the straightforward essential for fans seeking a modern base-form version in his classic Android/Cell Arc outfit, while Trunks offers the more elaborate and versatile package. Dedicated Z-Fighters collectors will likely find the shared display concept the biggest draw, but Trunks may have the broader appeal for anyone who prioritizes expressive posing and accessory variety.
