LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight is now available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S—and if you are willing to gamble on a mystery key, Fanatical is offering a chance to add it to your Steam library for as little as $1. There is no guarantee that Batman will emerge from the bundle, but the promotion gives curious players a low-cost shot at TT Games’ most ambitious LEGO adventure yet.

The offer comes through Fanatical’s Mystery Vault Bundle, which lets shoppers buy random Steam keys in different quantities. A single key costs $1, while larger packages climb to $17.49 for 25 keys. Each purchase contains an undisclosed game, meaning LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight is a possible prize rather than a confirmed inclusion.

That distinction matters. This is not a direct discount on LEGO Batman, and players buying one key could just as easily receive an older release or an obscure indie title. Still, the bundle may appeal to PC gamers who enjoy expanding their Steam libraries and do not mind taking a chance on games they might otherwise overlook.

A mystery key is a gamble, but the game is a strong target

LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight arrives after a long absence for the character’s dedicated LEGO series. Batman last headlined a mainline LEGO game in 2014, while LEGO DC Super-Villains provided the most recent substantial TT Games take on the wider DC universe in 2018.

This new entry attempts to justify the wait by bringing together multiple eras of Batman history. Its original story draws from films, television, comics, and previous games, creating a broad Batman tribute rather than adapting a single movie. The result is deliberately eclectic, with familiar scenes reworked through the exaggerated logic of LEGO comedy.

One of the clearest examples is the sequence inspired by The Batman, in which Batman’s visit to Penguin’s Iceberg Lounge becomes a rhythm-based dance-off with Gordon. It is exactly the kind of tonal left turn that could undermine a darker Batman game, but fits naturally into TT Games’ tradition of turning serious source material into absurd slapstick.

The humor is also a major reason the game has connected with players who had grown tired of the LEGO formula. Rather than simply repeating the same jokes and structure, Legacy of the Dark Knight appears more willing to make Batman’s grim persona the punchline. His seriousness becomes part of the comedy, especially when it collides with musical interludes, bizarre character interpretations, and the usual brick-smashing chaos.

TT Games pushes the series closer to Arkham

The game’s combat takes clear inspiration from the Batman: Arkham series, including counters, evasive movement, gadgets, and attacks built around positioning. It does not attempt to match Rocksteady’s complexity or intensity, but the simplified approach suits a family-friendly action-adventure game where combat shares space with puzzles, exploration, vehicles, and character abilities.

That compromise is important. Players looking for another full-scale Arkham sequel may find the combat too light, while LEGO fans could appreciate the extra immediacy. Batman can still use his gadgets to dispatch enemies in amusing ways, including turning criminals into balls of glue before sending them flying across an arena.

Beyond the fighting, Gotham City serves as an open-world LEGO playground filled with challenges, collectibles, crimes, puzzles, and recognizable locations. Players can also take control of more than 20 vehicles, including Batmobiles and Batcycles inspired by different corners of Batman’s history. The open-world structure gives the game a larger sense of scale than the older, more tightly segmented LEGO Batman titles.

That ambition also raises the stakes for performance and pacing. A sprawling Gotham gives players more freedom, but it risks making the campaign feel less focused than the classic level-based entries. Reviews have generally praised the game’s visual presentation, fan service, humor, and willingness to modernize the formula, while some criticism has focused on occasional jank and the limits of its combat systems.

Local co-op remains, but online players are left out

LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight supports two-player local cooperative play, allowing Batman and an ally to tackle the campaign together on the same system. That keeps one of the franchise’s most enduring traditions intact, particularly for families and friends who prefer playing side by side.

However, there is no official online co-op mode. On PC, Steam’s Remote Play Together may provide an alternative for some players, but the game is fundamentally designed around local multiplayer. For a 2026 release built around a large open world, the lack of native online support is a noticeable limitation.

The game also avoids real-money microtransactions, which makes its progression and unlockable content easier to approach than many modern licensed releases. Additional downloadable content is tied to expanded suits, vehicles, and Batcave items, including material inspired by different Batman interpretations.

Should you roll the dice on the $1 bundle?

If you specifically want LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight, buying a mystery key is a poor substitute for purchasing the game directly. The odds are unknown, and there is no assurance that even a large bundle will contain TT Games’ latest Batman adventure. Treat the promotion as a collection-building gamble, not as a reliable way to secure the game.

For players who enjoy mystery bundles, however, the offer is easier to justify. A $1 key could produce a pleasant surprise, and the larger packages may add several games to a neglected Steam library. The promotion also includes entry into a prize draw involving Steam hardware, with additional rare rewards connected to the bundle.

Ultimately, the appeal of LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight does not depend on getting it for $1. The game’s strongest qualities are its affectionate treatment of Batman history, its willingness to parody even the most serious versions of the character, and its attempt to blend LEGO accessibility with Arkham-inspired action. If the mystery vault happens to hand you the game, that is a fortunate bonus—not the only reason to be interested in it.
