Genshin Impact’s Luna VII update has finally arrived, sending players back to Sumeru for a new Archon Quest, a dangerous new weekly boss, and the long-awaited debut of Nicole Reeyn—the first playable member of the Hexenzirkel. Version 6.6, officially titled Truth Amongst the Pages of Purana, launched on May 20, 2026, and represents one of the game’s most lore-heavy updates in recent memory.
For longtime players, the appeal goes beyond another round of Event Wishes. Luna VII advances several long-running mysteries, expands the Hexerei storyline, and gives one of Genshin Impact’s most elusive factions a much more direct role in the playable roster. It also marks another attempt by HoYoverse to make returning to the game less intimidating for players who have fallen behind.
Sumeru’s next crisis brings the story back to familiar ground
The new Archon Quest returns to Sumeru, where the nation of wisdom is once again facing a crisis capable of plunging it into chaos. Nahida is reportedly out of the picture, while a new enemy bearing an uncanny resemblance to Il Dottore has appeared. The threat is not simply another powerful opponent, either. HoYoverse has positioned the storyline as a major continuation of the game’s broader mysteries surrounding the Fatui, the Hexenzirkel, and the forces manipulating Teyvat from the shadows.
Completing the new story content provides up to 560 Primogems alongside Ascension Materials for Nicole. Players who finish the relevant chapter can also unlock a new Weekly Boss described as having “unpredictable abilities.” The official presentation emphasized teleportation, summoned attacks, and an encounter designed to make approaching the boss more difficult than usual.
Luna VII also adds Guiding Notes to the Quest Overview interface. The feature is intended to help returning players remember important characters, plot points, and unresolved story threads before continuing the Archon Quest. Improved quest autosave prompts should further reduce the chances of losing progress during Genshin Impact’s increasingly elaborate story sequences.
Nicole finally makes the Hexenzirkel playable
Nicole Reeyn is easily the headline addition. Known within the Hexenzirkel by the codename “N,” she is a five-star Pyro Catalyst user built primarily as an off-field support character. Her Elemental Skill increases the ATK of the entire party and creates a shield, offering both offensive utility and interruption protection without requiring her to remain on the field.
Her Elemental Burst summons an Arcane Projection that follows the active character. When that character attacks, the projection launches coordinated attacks matching their Elemental Type. That design gives Nicole a flexible role in teams built around different elements, while also tying her more closely to the Hexerei characters introduced during the game’s current story arc.
Nicole’s exploration utility is a particularly welcome touch. Outside combat, she can call upon a Seelie to guide players toward nearby treasure, provided they have obtained the relevant regional Treasure Compass. It is a fitting ability for a character associated with magic, secrets, and the Witch’s Lodge, which also receives a dedicated Meeting Point in Luna VII.
From a team-building perspective, Nicole appears designed to occupy a space between a conventional ATK buffer and a defensive support. That combination could make her attractive to players who want more comfortable rotations, especially in teams that already benefit from Hexerei-related bonuses. However, her ultimate value will depend heavily on how many future characters are built to take advantage of that system.
Lohen and Prune round out a crowded character cycle
Lohen, the Vice Captain of the Knights of Favonius’ Fifth Company, is Luna VII’s other five-star debut. Unlike Nicole, he is a Cryo Polearm user focused on aggressive on-field combat. His kit revolves around two resources—Joy and Will to Win—that build through his own actions and the activity of his teammates.
Lohen can enter the Masterstroke state through his Elemental Skill, allowing him to build and spend Joy to unleash stronger attacks. Meanwhile, his teammates generate Will to Win as they fight, creating a more collaborative damage loop than the traditional self-contained main DPS. His effectiveness also increases when a Hexerei character joins the party, giving Nicole and Lohen an obvious connection beyond their shared release window.
Prune is the four-star addition and takes on a more specialized support role. The Anemo Catalyst user is known as a Witch Hunter and fights with a bell and hammer, dealing damage across several elements while triggering Swirl reactions. HoYoverse is also positioning her as a support character for Hexerei teams, making her a potentially useful option for players who are interested in the new faction but cannot rely on multiple five-star characters.
Nicole and Prune headline the first half of the update alongside a Durin rerun. Lohen arrives in the second half with the return of Mavuika. The result is a particularly demanding banner cycle for players managing limited Primogems, with new characters, powerful reruns, and several overlapping team identities competing for attention.
A whimsical event slate hides some meaningful additions
Luna VII’s main limited-time event focuses on Klee’s Little Hexenzirkel and features a collection of mini-games involving Prune, Qiqi, Yaoyao, and Sayu. The activities include Dodoco-themed challenges, obstacle courses, collection tasks, and a combat-focused performance built around Prune’s Witch Hunter identity.
Players can earn the exclusive weapon appearance Super Awesome Magic Key by participating in the event. The reward is cosmetic rather than a new combat weapon, but it gives the event a tangible collectible that should appeal to players who enjoy customizing their equipment and character showcases.
Miliastra Wonderland also receives new content, including a sports festival built around friendly competition. Manekins can now perform actions throughout Teyvat, while the Kamera has been expanded with additional editing tools and assets. These additions are less significant than the Archon Quest or new characters, but they reinforce Genshin Impact’s growing emphasis on player expression, photography, and personalized scenes.
Luna VII’s biggest strength is its long-term setup
On the surface, Luna VII is another substantial Genshin Impact patch packed with characters, events, rewards, and story content. Its more important contribution may be structural. By making Nicole the first playable Hexenzirkel member and linking multiple characters through Hexerei mechanics, HoYoverse is establishing a new framework that could shape team-building well beyond this update.
That approach will appeal most to lore-focused players and dedicated roster builders. Casual players may find the number of interconnected systems and characters difficult to follow, particularly if they are returning after a long absence. Guiding Notes should help with the narrative backlog, but the sheer amount of content surrounding the update still makes Luna VII feel aimed at invested players.
Even so, the return to Sumeru gives the patch a strong narrative anchor, while Nicole’s arrival finally turns one of Genshin Impact’s most talked-about factions into something players can actively use. Whether the Hexenzirkel becomes a defining force in the game’s future meta remains to be seen, but Luna VII gives it an unmistakable first step into the spotlight.
