Honkai: Star Rail’s Version 4.3 update, The Lethe Below the Living, launched on June 1, 2026, pushing the Planarcadia storyline further into its surreal World in Canvas setting. The update’s biggest draw is Mortenax Blade, a new five-star Fire character who reimagines one of the game’s most recognizable figures as a Nihility damage dealer built around debuffs, field control, and follow-up attacks.

For players invested in the current story arc, Version 4.3 is more than another character banner. It places Mortenax Blade at the center of a chapter involving the Trailblazer, Shuhu’s curse, the power of Voracity, and the mysterious husk of an Aeon. HoYoverse is using the update to deepen some of Planarcadia’s largest unanswered questions while adding a range of combat and customization features around that narrative.

Mortenax Blade turns a familiar character into a very different fighter

Mortenax Blade is a five-star Fire character on the Path of Nihility. His story follows an attempt to enter the World in Canvas, borrow the power of Voracity, and excise Shuhu from his body in the hope of ending the curse that has defined his existence.

That transformation is reflected in his combat design. Rather than simply revisiting the original Blade’s familiar damage profile, Mortenax Blade deploys a special field through his Ultimate. While the field remains active, enemies take increased damage and can be affected by debuffs generated through attacks from Mortenax Blade and his allies.

The field also unlocks a Sword Formation skill, allowing him to deal heavier damage and work toward a second, more powerful Ultimate. Attacks from teammates contribute to a special Charge resource, which Mortenax Blade can later spend to trigger additional offensive actions. HoYoverse’s official overview describes him as a damage-focused Nihility character who can support frequent debuff application and follow-up attacks.

That makes his appeal broader than simply adding another on-field damage dealer. Teams that benefit from enemies carrying multiple debuffs, or that already revolve around frequent ally attacks, appear to be the natural home for Mortenax Blade. His design should also interest players who enjoy building rotations around timing, resource generation, and layered team interactions rather than relying on a single burst window.

Planarcadia’s next chapter heads for the edge of reality

Version 4.3 sends the Trailblazer to Inkford Hermitage, an area positioned on the boundary between the World in Canvas and the real world. The journey is tied to a warning for Graphia about the Asat Pramad threat, giving the update a more transitional atmosphere even as it advances the broader Planarcadia arc.

The setting is a natural fit for Honkai: Star Rail’s fondness for worlds that blur memory, myth, and physical space. Inkford Hermitage promises another visually distinct location, but its narrative importance may be even greater than its scenery. The update is expected to reveal more about Mortenax Blade, the Trailblazer’s own role in the crisis, and the remains of the Aeon at the center of the unfolding mystery.

For longtime players, that combination could make Version 4.3 one of the more significant story updates in the current arc. The World in Canvas has always leaned into theatrical imagery and dreamlike logic, but this chapter appears to connect that style more directly to the game’s cosmic mythology and the Trailblazer’s personal fate.

Wispae Amusement Park adds a creative layer to the World in Canvas

The update’s most unusual side activity is Wispae Amusement Park, a construction-focused event set within the World in Canvas. Players can arrange rides and facilities, choose themes, plan visitor routes, and shape the layout of their own park.

This is a welcome change of pace from Honkai: Star Rail’s usual combat-heavy event structure. The park-building feature gives the update a more relaxed, creative identity and could appeal to players who enjoy the game’s environmental design but want something less demanding than endgame team building. It also makes practical use of the World in Canvas concept, turning a story setting into a space players can actively organize and personalize.

Another event, Pixel Plane Rumble, takes the game in a completely different direction. It presents a bullet-hell-style dogfight involving 99 fighters, with aircraft customization and strategic planning built around surviving the escalating battle. Together, the two activities show HoYoverse continuing to use limited-time events as a testing ground for genres outside the core turn-based RPG format.

Starward Mode raises the stakes in endgame content

Version 4.3 also expands the Treasures Lightward endgame with Starward Mode, available through Memory of Chaos, Pure Fiction, and Apocalyptic Shadow. The mode requires players to assemble three separate teams for three stages, adding another layer of roster management to the game’s most demanding challenges.

That structure should be especially interesting for veteran players with deep character collections. Instead of asking whether one optimized team can clear a difficult stage, Starward Mode tests account-wide flexibility: damage types, sustain options, turn order, support coverage, and the ability to field multiple functional compositions at once.

Clearing the challenges with full stars provides additional rewards, including Stellar Jades. The supplied update details state that each completed challenge can award 100 extra Stellar Jades, though players should check the in-game reward breakdown for the exact requirements attached to each activity.

The banner schedule adds further pressure for players managing limited resources. Yao Guang returns in the first phase, while Cyrene and Phainon return in the second. Mortenax Blade is accompanied by his signature five-star Light Cone, Reforged in Hellfire, and the Gift of Tempered Blade event offers a new Trailblazer outfit piece after players obtain him through Warping.

HoYoverse is also offering a seven-day login campaign that grants 10 Star Rail Special Passes, while the update adds quality-of-life improvements such as expanded Warp history records and a mobile home-screen widget. These are modest additions individually, but they make Version 4.3 feel broader than a character-focused patch.

With its central story chapter, experimental side activities, and a more demanding endgame format, Version 4.3 is aimed squarely at both narrative-focused Trailblazers and players who have been waiting for another reason to revisit their combat rosters. Mortenax Blade is the headline attraction, but the more important long-term addition may be the way Starward Mode asks experienced players to think beyond a single best team.
