Bulkhead’s WARDOGS Steam Reviews Rebound From Mixed to Very Positive

CD Projekt RED and Studio TRIGGER have confirmed that Cyberpunk: Edgerunners II will premiere exclusively on Netflix on October 20, 2026. The follow-up returns to Night City with a new cast, a standalone 10-episode story, and a darker dramatic focus built around redemption, revenge, and the desperate need to be seen.

The announcement arrives alongside a new premiere-date trailer, giving fans their clearest confirmation yet that the next chapter of the Cyberpunk anime will arrive this fall. While the original series centered on David Martinez and became closely associated with his tragic rise through Night City’s criminal underworld, the sequel is designed to tell a separate story rather than continue his arc.

A New Story Beneath Night City’s Neon

According to the official synopsis, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners II follows a new group of characters caught in a city where violence, fame, and spectacle are inseparable. The series is described as a raw chronicle of redemption and revenge, asking what people are willing to sacrifice when attention becomes the only way to make their lives matter.

That premise keeps the sequel firmly rooted in the themes that define the Cyberpunk setting. Night City is not simply a backdrop of neon streets and corporate towers; it is a machine that turns trauma into entertainment and ambition into another form of exploitation. A story focused on public spectacle could give the new series a useful angle on the city’s culture of celebrity, criminal notoriety, and disposable lives.

CD Projekt RED’s official material also identifies two central figures: Weak, a washed-up cyberpunk legend forced to live without chrome, and D, a nomad pursuing revenge while moving dangerously close to corporate secrets. Their descriptions suggest a conflict between someone trying to recover a sense of purpose and someone consumed by a personal vendetta.

TRIGGER Returns With a New Creative Lead

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners II reunites CD Projekt RED with TRIGGER, the Japanese animation studio behind the original anime. The production is led by director Kai Ikarashi, with Kanno Ichigo serving as lead character designer. Ikarashi previously worked on the first Edgerunners series and has also been associated with projects including SSSS.Gridman.

Hugo Award-winning writer Bartosz Sztybor returns as showrunner, story writer, and producer, alongside Masahiko Otsuka. That combination gives the sequel a direct creative connection to the original while still allowing it to establish its own cast and identity.

The decision to make the story standalone is particularly important. Fans do not need a continuation of David’s journey to return to Night City, and the format gives TRIGGER and CD Projekt RED room to explore a different corner of the setting without depending on the previous series’ emotional beats. At the same time, the sequel faces the difficult task of following an anime that left a powerful impression through its visual style, music, character work, and willingness to make Night City feel genuinely dangerous.

Why the October Premiere Matters

For Netflix, the series represents another major anime release built around an established game universe. For CD Projekt RED, it is a continuation of the broader Cyberpunk expansion beyond the mainline role-playing games. The first Edgerunners helped demonstrate how an adaptation could stand on its own while still deepening interest in Cyberpunk 2077, and the sequel has the opportunity to repeat that crossover appeal with both anime viewers and longtime players.

The audience is likely to extend well beyond Cyberpunk 2077 fans. TRIGGER’s distinctive animation pedigree should attract anime viewers, while the promise of a compact 10-episode story may appeal to viewers who prefer tightly structured seasons over sprawling television commitments. Its standalone format could also make it an accessible entry point for newcomers who have never played the game or watched the original series.

Still, expectations will be high. A new cast means the sequel must quickly establish its own emotional core, and the premise of redemption and revenge will need more than stylish action to distinguish itself from familiar cyberpunk fiction. The strongest version of Edgerunners II will likely be the one that uses Night City to pressure its characters into impossible choices rather than treating the setting as a collection of visual motifs.

Confirmed Details So Far

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners II is a standalone, 10-episode anime series created by CD Projekt RED and Studio TRIGGER. It will premiere exclusively on Netflix on October 20, 2026, and will feature a new cast of characters separate from the original series.

The latest trailer confirms the release date, but additional details about episode availability, voice casts, soundtrack, and specific connections to Cyberpunk 2077 have not been provided in the announcement. For now, the central promise is clear: another brutal descent into Night City, led by characters trying to turn suffering into a story the world cannot ignore.
