Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War – The Calamity has delivered one of the anime’s most anticipated reveals: Toshiro Hitsugaya’s complete Bankai. The transformation also comes with a major voice-acting surprise, as Yuki Kaji voices this version of the Squad 10 captain.

Spoilers ahead for the latest episode of Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War – The Calamity.

Toshiro Hitsugaya has always been one of Bleach’s most recognizable Soul Reapers, but his latest appearance pushes the character into territory the anime has been building toward for years. The young captain’s fully realized Bankai finally makes its animated debut, giving viewers a closer look at one of the franchise’s most talked-about power-ups.

The bigger surprise is behind the microphone. While Romi Park remains closely associated with Toshiro and continues to be listed as the character’s regular voice on the official Bleach anime character page, Yuki Kaji voices this distinct version of Hitsugaya in the new episode. Kaji is widely known to anime viewers as Eren Yeager in Attack on Titan, making the casting reveal especially notable.

Toshiro’s long-awaited complete Bankai arrives

Toshiro’s Zanpakuto, Hyorinmaru, has been central to some of Bleach’s most memorable battles. His Bankai, Daiguren Hyorinmaru, gives him control over ice and water on a massive scale, but the version seen in the latest episode represents a more complete and mature state of the ability.

The moment has been anticipated since the Thousand-Year Blood War adaptation began. Toshiro’s powers have repeatedly been placed under extreme pressure during the conflict, and the new episode finally pays off the setup with a transformation that changes how the captain appears and fights.

For longtime fans, the scene is significant not only because of its visual spectacle, but also because it expands on material from Tite Kubo’s original Bleach manga. The anime adaptation has already added or expanded several moments across the Thousand-Year Blood War storyline, making each major battle worth watching for possible new details.

Why Yuki Kaji’s casting stands out

Romi Park has voiced Toshiro since the original Bleach anime, establishing the character’s familiar combination of youthful intensity, discipline, and sharp temper. Yuki Kaji’s involvement does not replace that established performance across the series. Instead, his casting is tied to this particular form of Toshiro, creating a clear distinction between the captain audiences know and the more advanced version unveiled in The Calamity.

That choice gives the reveal an added dramatic edge. Kaji’s best-known performances include characters whose voices carry urgency and emotional weight, and his appearance here signals that the complete Bankai is being treated as more than a simple costume change or upgraded attack. The episode presents it as a defining stage in Toshiro’s development.

It also gives the scene an intriguing connection to another major modern anime franchise. Kaji’s role as Eren in Attack on Titan makes his appearance instantly recognizable to many international viewers, even though Toshiro is a very different kind of character.

Where The Calamity fits into the final arc

Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War adapts the concluding storyline of Kubo’s manga, following Substitute Soul Reaper Ichigo Kurosaki as he returns to battle after a new enemy threatens the Soul Society and the wider balance of the worlds.

The first part streamed from October through December 2022, while Part 2, The Separation, ran from July through September 2023. Part 3, The Conflict, began in October 2024, leading into the final installment, The Calamity, which premiered on July 25, 2026.

In the United States, the final part is streaming exclusively on Hulu, with Disney+ carrying the series in select international markets. VIZ Media also partnered with Fathom Entertainment for a limited theatrical presentation of the opening three episodes ahead of the broadcast and streaming release.

The final cour is being produced by PIERROT FILMS, with Tomohisa Taguchi continuing as chief series director and series composer. The official production information also lists Hikaru Murata as series director, Masaki Hiramatsu as a series composer, Masashi Kudo as character designer, and Shiro SAGISU as composer.

Beyond the anime, the franchise is expanding with BLEACH Mirrors High, a new smartphone game scheduled for summer 2026. The project is being developed by Bandai Namco Entertainment and features involvement from Kubo, giving fans another way to remain in the world of Bleach as the anime approaches its conclusion.

With Toshiro’s complete Bankai now on screen, the remaining episodes have another major milestone to follow. The anime’s final stretch is still keeping important casting and adaptation choices under wraps, so viewers should keep an eye on both upcoming battles and any further surprises tied to the series’ most familiar Soul Reapers.
