Tensei shitara Ken deshita II is sharpening its blade for its October return, with the anime’s official website announcing three additional cast members, new opening and ending themes, a key visual, and a second promotional video. The new footage offers another look at Fran and her sentient sword partner as they take on a dangerous new dungeon adventure.
The second season is scheduled to premiere on October 8, 2026, at midnight on Tokyo MX, with broadcasts to follow on ABC TV, BS Asahi, and AT-X. The release continues the story of Fran, the young Black Cat beastkin girl determined to achieve her next evolution, and Teacher, the powerful sword who has become her trusted companion.
Three New Voices Join Fran’s Next Adventure
The latest casting announcement adds Shiori Izawa as Nanashi, Show Hayami as Lich, and Hiroki Gotou as Urushi. For longtime fans, Gotou’s return as Urushi will be especially familiar: the intelligent wolf monster became Fran’s contracted companion after Teacher summoned him to help rescue her.
The official season-two character information also highlights the larger role awaiting Lich. He serves as the dungeon master of the labyrinth beneath a floating island and commands an army of undead magic beasts. Lich is described as the king of the dead, wielding powerful necromantic abilities fueled by immense magical power and a deep-seated resentment.
Nanashi’s role remains more mysterious in the currently revealed material, but the character’s inclusion adds another new presence to a season that is expanding the series’ supernatural side. Hayami’s casting also brings a veteran voice actor to the production, while Izawa and Gotou add further continuity and personality to the returning ensemble.
FZMZ and HANABIE. Supply the Season’s Music
The second promotional video previews both of the season’s theme songs. Musical group FZMZ performs the opening theme, “DREAM OF BUTTERFLY,” while HANABIE. handles the ending theme, “Baribari Buddy.”
FZMZ previously contributed music to Shangri-La Frontier, while HANABIE. is associated with Araiguma Calcal-dan. Their involvement points to a soundtrack with plenty of energy, matching the fantasy action series’ mix of dungeon battles, monster encounters, and the often-comedic bond between Fran and Teacher.
The new trailer also gives viewers a closer look at the season’s central setting: a floating island containing a hostile labyrinth filled with undead beasts. Teacher and Fran discover the island while traveling toward the port city of Dars, eventually accepting a request from the necromancer Jean Duubie to help conquer the dungeon.
Returning Staff and a New Dungeon Story
Shinji Ishihira, known for his work on Fairy Tail, returns to direct the second season at animation studio C2C. Takahiro Nagano is again credited with series composition and script duties, while Atsuko Saitou provides character designs. Yasuharu Takanashi, whose credits include Log Horizon, is composing the music.
The official introduction describes the new arc as another journey for “a cat-eared girl and her doting sword.” Fran is now a D-rank adventurer traveling in search of the strength needed for her evolution, while Teacher continues to support her growth through combat, cooking, and a steadily expanding collection of skills.
That premise remains the hook that separates Reincarnated as a Sword from more conventional isekai adventures. The protagonist is not a hero carrying a magical weapon—he is the weapon, complete with his own will, memories, and protective instincts. Fran’s determination and Teacher’s sometimes overprotective behavior give the action story its distinctive partnership.
The first anime season aired for 12 episodes in fall 2022. Sentai Filmworks licensed the series in North America, where it was simulcast on HIDIVE with subtitles before receiving an English dub.
Beyond the anime, Yuu Tanaka’s original light novel series continues under Micro Magazine’s GC Novels imprint, with illustrations by LLO. The Japanese edition reached its 20th volume in October 2025, and the 21st volume is scheduled for September 30. Seven Seas Entertainment publishes the light novels, manga adaptation, and Another Wish spin-off in English; its English light novel volume 19 arrived on August 4, 2026.
With the second promotional video now showcasing the theme songs and the floating-island dungeon, the next major details to watch for are additional character announcements and further information about the season’s English release. Fran, Teacher, and Urushi return on October 8, 2026, for what appears to be a larger and more dangerous chapter of their adventure.
