Genshin Impact’s Version 7.0 livestream has given longtime players another reason to check their character rosters before spending a single Primogem. The game’s free five-star Constellation selector, To Temper Thyself and Journey Far, is expanding with nine additional characters, bringing several Fontaine favorites—and one especially surprising standard character—into the rotation.

The update matters because the selector offers something Genshin Impact players rarely receive for free: a guaranteed Constellation upgrade for a five-star character they already own. With the event entering its fifth cycle, the expanded roster gives veteran accounts more meaningful choices, while newer players have another long-term reward to work toward.

Nine new characters join the selector

Beginning with Version 7.0, players will be able to claim one Stella Fortuna for an eligible character from the following additions:

  • Lyney
  • Wriothesley
  • Navia
  • Xianyun
  • Chiori
  • Sigewinne
  • Clorinde
  • Emilie
  • Yumemizuki Mizuki

The selection is heavily weighted toward Fontaine, which is hardly unexpected given the characters’ origins and the event’s apparent progression through Genshin Impact’s roster. Still, the omission of characters such as Al Haitham has already become one of the more noticeable talking points surrounding the announcement.

That gap is particularly striking because Al Haitham remains one of the most recognizable five-star characters from Sumeru. His absence suggests that HoYoverse is not simply adding characters based on age, popularity, or regional order. The roster appears to be following its own internal schedule, leaving players to speculate about when older Sumeru characters might finally receive the same treatment.

Wriothesley looks like the safest power pick

Among the new additions, Wriothesley stands out as the most obvious choice for players focused on combat strength. The Cryo catalyst user has recently benefited from the introduction of the Stellar Conduct reaction, giving him a fresh place in the game’s evolving combat ecosystem.

That does not automatically make his Constellation the correct choice for every account. Genshin Impact’s Constellations vary wildly in value, and a character’s usefulness depends on weapons, artifacts, team composition, and the content a player regularly tackles. Even so, Wriothesley is a compelling option for anyone who already uses him as a primary damage dealer and wants a direct upgrade rather than a purely situational benefit.

His inclusion also illustrates why this selector is more interesting than a simple popularity poll. A free Constellation can help revive a character who has been overshadowed by newer releases, particularly when changes to elemental reactions or team-building priorities alter the meta around them.

Mizuki and the case for utility over raw damage

Yumemizuki Mizuki is another unexpectedly appealing addition. As a standard five-star character, Mizuki is more accessible than limited characters in the long run, but that does not make a free Constellation irrelevant. The arrival of Stellar Swirl in Version 7.0 appears to give her a more relevant role, potentially making her a better investment than players might have expected when she first entered the standard pool.

Mizuki’s inclusion is also important for the selector’s overall identity. The event is not limited to the most exclusive or newest characters; it is becoming a way to improve established rosters in response to broader system changes. For players who already have Mizuki and enjoy reaction-focused teams, her Stella Fortuna could offer more practical value than chasing a minor upgrade for a character they rarely field.

That said, players should resist treating any tier list as universal advice. A Constellation that transforms one account may barely affect another, especially when the character is missing a preferred weapon, support partner, or artifact setup.

The rules remain unchanged

The event’s core structure is staying the same. Players must already own the selected character, and each character can receive only one Stella Fortuna through the selector. The reward cannot be used to unlock a character from scratch, so players who do not own any of the new additions will need to wait until a future rerun or obtain them through the normal Wish system.

To earn the reward, players complete daily tasks repeatedly across eight weeks. The requirements fit naturally into Genshin Impact’s regular routine, including daily commissions and Original Resin spending, but the long timetable means the selector favors consistent participation rather than a single burst of activity.

Once a player completes the required weekly progress, they can claim one available Constellation from the roster. Additional rewards follow after the main selection, giving the event some value even for players who have already made their preferred choice in an earlier cycle.

It is worth checking the roster carefully before committing. A free Constellation is valuable, but it is also permanent, and the best decision may depend on whether a player wants stronger on-field damage, better off-field utility, improved exploration, or simply a favorite character pushed closer to their ideal build.

Four early picks, four different priorities

For a balanced account, the new roster offers several distinct reasons to spend the reward. Wriothesley is the straightforward power pick, particularly for players interested in the current reaction landscape. Xianyun offers a more utility-focused route, with exploration benefits making her attractive even outside combat.

Chiori and Emilie are appealing for players who prefer flexible off-field options. Their upgrades may not produce the same immediate spectacle as a major on-field damage increase, but characters who contribute while rotating out can remain useful across a wider range of teams.

That spread is ultimately what makes the Version 7.0 expansion worthwhile. HoYoverse is not handing every player the same obvious answer; it is adding enough variety for the selector to feel personal. Whether the priority is power, exploration, team flexibility, or simply strengthening a character already sitting in the roster, the fifth cycle gives Genshin Impact’s veteran players more meaningful control over their long-term accounts.
