The 2026 FIFA World Cup final brought together defending champion Argentina and Spain at New York New Jersey Stadium on Sunday, July 19. The match was originally scheduled for a 3 p.m. ET kickoff and became one of the tournament’s biggest storylines, pairing Lionel Messi’s Argentina with a Spain side led by the next generation of stars, including Lamine Yamal.

For viewers looking for the official live broadcast, the available options depended heavily on location. Several countries offered free coverage through public broadcasters, while viewers in the United States generally needed access to FOX, FOX Sports or FOX One. The final has now concluded, but official replay and catch-up options remain available in several regions.

Where to watch the World Cup final in the United States

In the United States, FOX carried the English-language television broadcast, with coverage also available through FOX Sports’ digital platforms. FOX Sports listed FOX One as its official streaming option, with viewers able to sign in through a participating television provider or use the platform’s promotional access where available.

Spanish-language coverage was provided by Telemundo, with digital availability handled through NBCUniversal’s streaming ecosystem. Availability, authentication requirements and replay windows can vary by service, so viewers should check the current FOX Sports or Telemundo schedule before signing up for a subscription.

There was no universally free, official online stream for every U.S. viewer. However, households with an over-the-air antenna could watch the FOX broadcast through their local affiliate without paying for a streaming subscription, provided FOX service was available in their area.

Free streaming options in the UK and Australia

UK viewers had the clearest free-to-air choices. The BBC and ITV shared live coverage of the 2026 tournament, with both broadcasters showing the final. Online viewers could use BBC iPlayer or ITVX, while viewers in Scotland could also encounter STV coverage depending on the broadcast arrangement.

The UK’s free coverage was not simply a promotional offer. The World Cup remains a listed sporting event, and Ofcom confirmed that the BBC and ITV’s arrangements would keep live tournament coverage available free to UK audiences. Viewers generally need an account for the relevant streaming service, along with the usual UK viewing requirements.

In Australia, SBS provided all 104 matches live and free across its television channels and SBS On Demand. The final was scheduled for 5 a.m. Australian Eastern Standard Time on Monday, July 20, making it an early-morning event for Australian fans.

SBS On Demand also offered full-match replays, mini-matches, extended highlights and shorter clips after the live broadcast. That makes it the most useful option for viewers who missed the final or want to revisit the match without searching through unofficial uploads.

Canada and other international viewing options

Canadian coverage was handled through Bell Media’s broadcast network, including CTV, TSN and RDS. TSN’s streaming service was the primary digital option for many viewers, although access could depend on an existing television subscription or a separate streaming package.

Outside the main English-language markets, FIFA’s broadcast partnerships covered more than 220 territories. The exact service differed by country, but the safest approach was to check the local FIFA broadcast partner rather than rely on unofficial live-stream listings that may be blocked, unstable or removed during the match.

Some public broadcasters also offered free coverage through their own websites and apps. Geographic restrictions applied in many cases because broadcasting rights were sold separately by territory. A legitimate VPN may help travelers access a service they are already entitled to use at home, but it does not replace a subscription or override a broadcaster’s terms of service.

Kickoff time, venue and the final’s entertainment spectacle

The final was played at New York New Jersey Stadium, the tournament name used for MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. FIFA selected the venue as the closing location for the expanded 48-team competition, which featured 104 matches across the United States, Canada and Mexico.

The match was more than a standard football broadcast. FIFA staged a closing ceremony before kickoff, while the halftime presentation featured an unusually large lineup that included Madonna, Shakira, Justin Bieber, BTS, Burna Boy, Coldplay-linked performances and appearances involving characters from the Muppets and Sesame Street.

The halftime break was expected to run longer than a normal World Cup interval. Coverage reports placed the overall halftime presentation at roughly 27 minutes, meaning viewers watching live needed to allow for a substantial gap between the two halves.

What happened in the final?

Spain defeated Argentina 1-0 after extra time, with substitute Ferran Torres scoring in the 106th minute. Argentina goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez kept the defending champions alive with a World Cup final-record performance that included 12 saves, but Spain’s control of possession and attacking pressure eventually proved decisive.

The result gave Spain the men’s World Cup title and made the match a defining chapter in the contrast between Messi’s veteran Argentina side and Spain’s emerging generation. For viewers who missed the live broadcast, official replays through FOX Sports, SBS On Demand and regional broadcasters remain the best way to watch the full match legally.
