BLEACH: Thousand-Year Blood War is setting up a tense return as Part 4, subtitled The Calamity, previews its opening episode with Yoruichi Shihōin facing Askin Nakk Le Vaar. Episode 41 overall, titled “GOD OF THUNDER,” premieres on July 25, 2026, beginning the anime’s final cour and moving several major confrontations toward their breaking points.

The preview matters because it places Ichigo, Uryu, Yoruichi, Kisuke Urahara, and the remaining Soul Reaper and Quincy forces in simultaneous battles. Rather than focusing on a single hero’s duel, the episode appears designed to show the entire conflict destabilizing at once—a fitting approach for the closing stage of Tite Kubo’s long-running war arc.

Yoruichi and Askin’s Battle Takes Center Stage

Below the castle, Yoruichi clashes with Askin Nakk Le Vaar, one of Yhwach’s most dangerous Sternritter. The preview synopsis indicates that the battle turns against Yoruichi before Urahara arrives and begins working on a plan to shift the advantage back toward the Soul Reapers.

That pairing gives the episode an especially attractive dramatic contrast. Yoruichi’s combat style is built around speed, physical confidence, and close-range pressure, while Askin’s presence has traditionally brought a more unpredictable and analytical threat to the battlefield. The preview does not reveal the full mechanics of their confrontation, but it clearly positions Urahara’s intervention as more than a routine rescue. His arrival appears to initiate a larger tactical reversal.

From an adaptation standpoint, this is also the kind of matchup that benefits from animation. Yoruichi’s movement-based fighting requires sharp changes in speed and direction, while Askin’s abilities create room for suspense and visual experimentation. The episode’s success will likely depend on how effectively it balances explosive action with the strategic pauses that make Askin such an unusual opponent.

Ichigo and Uryu Move Along Separate Paths

The episode’s other major thread follows Ichigo, Orihime, and Chad as they head toward the throne room in an attempt to defeat Yhwach. At the same time, Haschwalth blocks Uryu’s path, with the “King’s light” glowing ominously in his eyes.

The preview description also emphasizes that Ichigo and Uryu once again stand side by side as friends and comrades. That wording carries considerable weight for longtime BLEACH viewers, since the story has spent much of the final arc testing the relationship between the two characters and forcing them onto apparently opposing sides.

Rather than resolving every conflict immediately, “GOD OF THUNDER” seems prepared to keep those tensions active. Ichigo’s group advances toward the central confrontation, while Uryu faces a personal obstacle that threatens to separate him from the people he once fought alongside. This parallel structure gives the premiere a strong sense of forward motion without reducing the war to one simple battlefield.

Disturbances Spread Across All Three Worlds

The preview also teases strange disturbances spreading across all three worlds. The synopsis does not explain their cause, which allows the premiere to preserve an important layer of mystery while widening the scale of the crisis.

That detail suggests Part 4 will not treat the final battles as isolated clashes between individual fighters. In BLEACH, conflicts between the Soul Society, the World of the Living, and Hueco Mundo have always carried consequences beyond the immediate combatants. By bringing all three worlds into the episode’s warning signs, the anime can reinforce the sense that the outcome of the war is tied to the stability of the entire setting.

Editorially, this is an effective choice for a final cour. The story has reached a point where personal rivalries, military strategy, and supernatural consequences must collide. The preview promises all three at once, with Yoruichi and Urahara handling the tactical battle, Ichigo approaching Yhwach’s throne, and Uryu confronting the forces attempting to stop him.

Confirmed Episode Staff and Final-Cour Details

Episode 41 lists Masaki Hiramatsu and Tomohisa Taguchi on screenplay duties. Chen Dali is credited with the storyboard and episode direction, while 小澤早衣子 serves as animation director and Kumiko Takayanagi is credited as chief animation director.

Part 4 is the fourth and final cour of BLEACH: Thousand-Year Blood War. The anime originally returned in 2022 to adapt the manga’s concluding arc after the first television series ended in 2012. In the United States, the final part is scheduled to stream on Hulu, while Disney+ carries the series in international territories according to VIZ Media’s announcement.

The new cour is also expected to include more original material than the earlier parts. Tite Kubo has confirmed that the anime will expand elements of the manga’s final battles, making the adaptation relevant even to readers who already know how the printed story unfolds. That added material gives the final episodes an opportunity to deepen confrontations, clarify character motivations, and give major battles more room to breathe.

Created by Tite Kubo, BLEACH ran in Weekly Shonen Jump from 2001 to 2016 and concluded with 74 volumes. The manga has surpassed 130 million copies in circulation worldwide, placing it among the best-selling manga series ever published.

With Yoruichi cornered, Urahara preparing a countermeasure, Ichigo approaching the throne room, and Uryu once again caught in the war’s political and personal crossfire, “GOD OF THUNDER” has the ingredients of a crowded but purposeful premiere. The challenge for the adaptation will be giving each thread enough impact while preserving the larger sense of catastrophe promised by the title The Calamity.
