The weekend gaming schedule has been taken hostage by wedding season, but there is still room for pirate ships, wrestling empires, interactive mysteries, and at least one very determined cat café visitor. As the team prepares for another round of ceremonies, speeches, canapés, and questionable dance moves, Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced has emerged as the clear unofficial game of the weekend.

Ubisoft’s remake launched on July 9, 2026, for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, giving players a modernised version of Edward Kenway’s Caribbean adventure. It rebuilds the original Black Flag in the latest version of Ubisoft’s Anvil Engine, while adding new story content, updated stealth and combat, visual upgrades, quality-of-life improvements, and extra activities for returning pirates.

Wedding season is the real live-service game

Before anyone can settle in for a relaxing weekend of gaming, there are social obligations to survive. One member of the team is approaching the next wedding with the discipline of an elite athlete, following a punishing training regime that includes rehearsing small-talk with people whose names have already disappeared from memory, practising the Charleston, enduring best man speeches, and attempting to deliver an impromptu speech without slurring.

The schedule also includes three separate dance sessions, a bouquet-snatching exercise open to everyone, a cryo-chamber recovery period, and a carefully measured diet of canapés and warm prosecco. It is a reminder that weddings are essentially multiplayer events with hidden objectives, unpredictable NPC dialogue, and a stamina system that collapses shortly after midnight.

There is at least one sensible choice in the itinerary: watching Pride & Prejudice. It has nothing to do with wedding preparation, but some cultural enrichment is necessary between dance practice and family-style servings of chicken, lamb, and butternut squash.

Black Flag Resynced takes over the weekend

Callum has discovered Total Extreme Wrestling IX, a wrestling management simulator that scratches the same itch as the old GM Mode features in WWE 2K. His plan appears to involve building a small independent British wrestling company and then wondering why John Cena refuses to sign for £100 a week. It is the kind of grand strategy fantasy where financial mismanagement, creative arguments, and impossible contract negotiations are not obstacles but the entire appeal.

Jeremy and Mark, meanwhile, are returning to Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced. That is an understandable choice. The remake preserves the fantasy of sailing through the Caribbean, raiding ships, visiting islands, and letting the sea shanties do most of the emotional heavy lifting, while presenting the adventure with current-generation visuals and a broader selection of new content.

Ubisoft has expanded Edward Kenway’s story with additional missions and new material involving characters including Blackbeard and Stede Bonnet. The remake also adds new sea shanties, pets, a photo mode, updated environments, and other enhancements designed to make the 2013 classic feel less like a museum piece and more like a contemporary action-adventure game.

Early critical response has been positive overall, particularly regarding the game’s presentation, naval action, and respect for the original’s identity. Some reviews have also suggested that, beneath the smoother performance and improved visuals, the remake still carries much of the structural feel of a 2013 Assassin’s Creed game. That tension may be the key to its appeal: Resynced is polished enough for newcomers while remaining recognisable to fans who remember when boarding a ship and immediately hearing a sea shanty felt like the pinnacle of open-world design.

Jeremy’s planned trip to Folkestone adds an appropriately cinematic element to the weekend. Gazing across the water while imagining a simpler life as Edward Kenway is perfectly reasonable. Hoping to avoid the later events of Assassin’s Creed III is also sensible, especially if the goal is to enjoy a seaside day without turning it into a historical tragedy.

From Tennocon recovery to the Island of Sodor

Not everyone is planning to play something. Edwin has returned from Tennocon after spending time with Warframe and Soulframe, and his weekend priority is now sleeping in a bed rather than discussing one. After several days of convention noise, developer conversations, and hands-on time with Digital Extremes’ evolving action games, bedframe is understandably the most attractive frame of all.

James has had a more alarming experience. After four consecutive days and nights communing with Denshattack!, he has apparently transformed into a locomotive. The best surgeons on the Island of Sodor are treating him, although it remains unclear whether the procedure will restore his humanity or merely improve his top speed.

Ollie’s weekend plans are less complicated but no less committed: somewhere out there, a cat café is waiting to be filled with cats and visited by Ollie. It is difficult to argue with this strategy. In a week dominated by wedding logistics, professional obligations, and massive open worlds, a quiet room full of cats may be the most effective form of recovery available.

A mystery for the quiet hours

If Julian manages to escape the wedding preparation, he wants to play The Incident At Galley House, a mystery highlighted by Inkle designer and writer Jon Ingold during a Develop talk. The recommendation has created an appetite for solving a puzzle or two, although the most immediate mystery is not necessarily contained within the game.

There is, for example, the question of the person attending next week’s wedding whose name has already been forgotten. He did something at the job. He wore a uniform. Perhaps he was introduced earlier. This is exactly the sort of social enigma that demands an evidence board, several cups of coffee, and possibly a save-scumming strategy.

So that is the weekend lineup: pirate adventures, wrestling management, interactive fiction, convention recovery, locomotive-related medical drama, and a cat café pilgrimage. Add in several weddings and a dangerous quantity of prosecco, and it is a surprisingly complete portrait of modern gaming life.
