Accidental Assassin, the Irish-set enemies-to-lovers thriller by Molly Ní Chéileachair and Vi, is moving from vertical-scroll webtoon to print graphic novel. Published by WEBTOON Unscrolled, the first volume is scheduled for September 1, 2026, giving readers a chance to experience the opening 14 episodes in a traditional collected format.

The transition matters because the series brings together several audience-friendly ingredients—action, comedy, workplace awkwardness, secret assassins, and a slow-burn romantic rivalry—while placing them in a present-day Ireland rarely seen in this particular webtoon genre. For readers who enjoy stories such as The Mafia Nanny, Spy x Family, or Mr. & Mrs. Smith, Accidental Assassin offers a similarly playful collision between domestic charm and professional danger.

Bonnie’s Office Life Has a Much Deadlier Second Act

At the center of Accidental Assassin is Bonnie, a bubbly office worker who appears ill-suited to the pressures of corporate life. She is sweet, feminine, and fond of cute things—qualities that make her seem out of place among more conventional office personalities.

That first impression turns out to be spectacularly misleading. Bonnie’s isolated upbringing included an unusual education from her father, and a late-night attack at the office exposes the skills she has kept hidden. She is not merely capable of defending herself; she is highly trained, dangerously efficient, and immediately interesting to people who know what to look for.

Her sudden display of ability attracts the attention of Fianna, a covert organization of assassins inspired by the legendary Irish warrior group of the same name. The Fianna is dedicated to protecting the world from chaos, although its methods are considerably more direct than those of an ordinary security agency. Bonnie is recruited as an apprentice, opening the door to a far more dangerous life than her office routine ever suggested.

An Enemies-to-Lovers Setup Built on Professional Friction

Bonnie’s biggest challenge is not simply learning how to operate inside the Fianna. It is winning over Ronan Clarke, the organization’s top operative. Ronan views her as a joke, creating an immediate clash between Bonnie’s bright, energetic personality and his colder, more skeptical outlook.

Their relationship follows a familiar romantic-comedy pattern, but the assassin setting gives the rivalry sharper consequences. Bonnie is fighting to prove that she belongs, while Ronan is forced to work alongside someone he does not initially respect. Every mission can test their trust, judgment, and ability to function as a team.

That combination gives the romance a practical foundation. Bonnie and Ronan are not simply thrown together because the plot needs a couple; they are partners whose professional disagreements directly affect the story’s action. Their slow-burn dynamic is therefore positioned to develop through shared danger, reluctant cooperation, and the gradual reassessment of each other’s abilities.

Why the Irish Setting Gives the Thriller a Distinct Identity

Many contemporary assassin romances rely on broadly international spy-fiction imagery: anonymous cities, elite agencies, luxury apartments, and shadowy organizations with little connection to a specific culture. Accidental Assassin takes a different route by grounding its secret society in Irish mythology and setting the story in present-day Ireland.

The Fianna concept provides more than a decorative reference. It gives the series a built-in connection to legendary Irish heroes while allowing the creators to place that tradition inside a modern action-comedy framework. The contrast between mythic inspiration and office-worker normality is one of the premise’s most appealing features.

Editorially, the setup also creates room for tonal variety. Bonnie’s love of feminine and cute things can sit alongside choreographed violence, covert missions, and organizational politics without necessarily canceling them out. Instead, the contrast appears to be part of the story’s central joke: the person who looks least threatening may be the one readers should fear most.

From Vertical Scroll to Collected Graphic Novel

The print edition collects episodes 1 through 14 of the WEBTOON series. That makes the graphic novel a focused entry point for new readers, while existing fans can revisit the opening storyline in a format that changes how the work is physically experienced.

Vertical-scroll comics are designed around controlled reveals, pauses, and the rhythm of moving down a screen. A collected edition necessarily changes that pacing. Page turns replace the original scroll, and scenes that once unfolded over separate screen-length beats may now sit closer together. That does not make the print version a simple copy of the digital reading experience; it gives the opening arc a new visual and narrative shape.

The book is also notable as the graphic-novel debut for both Ní Chéileachair and Vi. Ní Chéileachair has described herself as a reader and writer who enjoys putting fictional characters through challenges, while Vi provides the manga-inspired artwork that helps balance the series’ romantic comedy with its action-thriller framework.

WEBTOON Unscrolled’s involvement places Accidental Assassin within the growing movement to bring digital-first comics into bookstores and personal libraries. For readers who still prefer print collections, the release offers a way to discover the series away from a phone screen. For webtoon fans, it is another example of how serialized online stories can develop a second life as physical books.

Who Should Read Accidental Assassin?

The series is best suited to readers who like romance with a strong action engine rather than a purely domestic love story. Fans of enemies-to-lovers tension, secret organizations, capable heroines, workplace comedy, and manga-influenced art should find the premise immediately recognizable, while the Irish setting gives it a flavor distinct from many comparable spy romances.

It may also appeal to readers who enjoy the tonal balance of Spy x Family but want a more overt romantic rivalry, or those drawn to the high-concept relationship tension of Mr. & Mrs. Smith without needing the story to begin with an established marriage. The first print volume’s 14-episode scope should provide a substantial introduction to Bonnie, Ronan, and the Fianna without revealing the series’ later developments.

With its September 1, 2026 release, Accidental Assassin is positioned as both a debut graphic novel and a test of how effectively a webtoon’s serialized energy can translate to print. Its central hook is straightforward but flexible: a seemingly harmless office worker enters a world of professional killers, then finds that proving herself may be easier than earning the respect of her impossible new partner.
