Kodansha has confirmed that Nene Azuki’s web manga Mii-chan to Yamada-san will receive an anime adaptation in 2027. The announcement arrived alongside a commemorative illustration from Azuki, giving fans their first official look at the project’s transition from Magazine Pocket hit to animated drama.
There is still plenty left to learn about the adaptation. Kodansha has not announced the anime’s studio, staff, cast, episode count, format, or streaming plans, so the 2027 premiere window is currently the only confirmed broadcast information. A special promotional video was also released as part of the announcement, adding an early glimpse at the series’ unsettling nightlife setting and emotionally heavy story.
For longtime manga readers, the adaptation is a notable development for a series that has built a substantial following in a relatively short time. Mii-chan to Yamada-san began serialization on Kodansha’s Magazine Pocket website in September 2024, and the manga’s collected volumes have now surpassed 2.8 million copies in circulation.
A friendship born in Shinjuku’s nightlife scene

The manga is heading toward its final volume
The anime announcement arrives as the manga approaches its conclusion. Kodansha released the sixth volume on April 23, 2026, while the seventh and final volume is scheduled to arrive in Japan on September 9, 2026.

Unlike adaptations announced while their source manga remains open-ended, Mii-chan to Yamada-san will have a completed story available before the animated version premieres. Seven Seas Entertainment announced its English-language license for the series on January 28, 2026. The publisher will release the first volume of Mii-chan and Miss Yamada in English on December 8, 2026, shortly after the Japanese manga reaches its finale.
The English edition gives international readers a chance to discover the series before the anime arrives. Its release also places the manga in an appealing position for fans who prefer to read the original story first, especially given the work’s dramatic tone and the importance of its relationship-driven storytelling.
The series has already earned recognition in Japan, ranking fourth in the Male Readers’ Top 20 of Kono Manga ga Sugoi! 2026. It was also nominated in the General category of the 50th Kodansha Manga Awards, further highlighting the attention surrounding Azuki’s work.
