Detective Conan: Fallen Angel of the Highway, the 29th theatrical movie in Gosho Aoyama’s long-running detective anime franchise, opened in UK cinemas on Friday, June 12, 2026. Distributed by Trinity CineAsia, the Japanese-language feature brings Conan Edogawa into a high-speed mystery involving a mysterious black motorcycle, experimental police technology, and the emotional legacy of the Police Academy storyline.

Known as Case Closed in some international markets, Detective Conan follows teenage detective Shinichi Kudo after he is forced to live in the body of a child. The latest film continues the franchise’s tradition of combining elaborate mysteries with large-scale action set pieces, while placing Kanagawa traffic officer Chihaya Hagiwara at the centre of the story.

The film opened in Japan on April 10, 2026, across a franchise-record 526 screens. According to the release information, it delivered the biggest opening weekend in the series’ history, earning ¥3.5 billion and debuting at number one at the Japanese weekend box office.

A black motorcycle takes centre stage

In Fallen Angel of the Highway, Conan and his friends travel to Kanagawa for a Motorcycle Festival. Their journey takes a dangerous turn when a black motorcycle suddenly appears, speeding recklessly through traffic and even leaping over their vehicle.

The rider is pursued by Chihaya Hagiwara, a Kanagawa Traffic Police officer nicknamed the “Goddess of the Wind.” Despite her determination, the motorcycle escapes, leaving Hagiwara’s own bike badly damaged. The incident becomes even more intriguing when the group encounters “Angel,” a cutting-edge police motorcycle unveiled at the festival.

When the black bike later resurfaces in Tokyo, investigators discover that it closely resembles the new police machine. Authorities give the mysterious vehicle the name “Lucifer” and begin a full-scale search. From there, Conan’s latest case develops into a race involving police pursuits, dangerous machinery, and a confrontation between the so-called Fallen Angel and the Goddess of the Wind.

Chihaya Hagiwara’s personal connection

For longtime fans, the bigger surprise is how closely the movie connects its motorcycle mystery to Detective Conan’s Police Academy material. As the investigation develops, Hagiwara is forced to revisit memories of her late brother, Kenji Hagiwara, and his colleague Jinpei Matsuda.

That connection gives the film a stronger emotional thread than a straightforward chase mystery. The UK release details describe the story as a standalone theatrical case, meaning newcomers should be able to follow the central investigation, while established fans receive additional continuity tied to familiar characters and past events.

The movie is directed by Takahiro Hasui, whose previous credits include Mob Psycho 100 III, with a screenplay by Takahiro Okura. Okura also wrote Detective Conan: The Million-dollar Pentagram. The score comes from Yugo Kanno, known for work on JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure and PSYCHO-PASS.

The regular voice cast includes Minami Takayama as Conan Edogawa, Wakana Yamazaki, Rikiya Koyama, Ikue Otani, Yukiko Iwai, Wataru Takagi, Megumi Hayashibara, Noriko Hidaka, Akio Otsuka, Miyuki Sawashiro, Shinichiro Miki, and Nobutoshi Canna. Special voice appearances come from live-action performers Ryusei Yokohama and Mei Hata.

UK cinema details

Trinity CineAsia’s UK listing gives the film a runtime of approximately 109 minutes. It is presented in Japanese with English and Chinese subtitles, rather than as an English-language dub. The distributor’s current listing gives the film a 12A rating.

The British Board of Film Classification notes moderate violence, threat, and injury detail, including gunfire, explosive crashes, high-speed vehicle chases, and scenes involving weapons. The BBFC also confirms that the cinema version was cut at the distributor’s request to achieve a 12A classification, while an uncut 15 version was available to the distributor.

Trinity CineAsia has previously brought Detective Conan movies to UK audiences, including The Million-dollar Pentagram and One-Eyed Flashback. The company has also highlighted the franchise’s connection with Sherlock Holmes, a particularly fitting link for a series built around deduction, crime-solving, and the enduring appeal of the brilliant detective archetype.

With Fallen Angel of the Highway now released in the UK, the next detail worth keeping an eye on is its continued cinema availability. Trinity CineAsia’s listing describes the film as having “last few shows,” so fans who want to experience Conan’s latest motorcycle mystery on the big screen should check local listings rather than assume every venue is still screening it.
