Orange Inc.’s manga platform emaqi is packing September with a broad new wave of English-language releases, led by the dark fantasy Bloody Sugar Laughs at the Night and the workplace romcom Misato Is a Little Too Strict with Her Pushover Boss. Eight manga will arrive across the month, with seven of them included in the emaqi Premium subscription.

The lineup ranges from supernatural medical drama and post-apocalyptic cooking to historical cuisine, feline fantasy, and an unfiltered workplace comedy about cosmetic surgery. The first titles launch on September 4, 2026, followed by releases on September 11, September 18, and September 25.

For readers who joined emaqi when its app launched in North America in May 2025, this is another sizable expansion for a service built around both established publishers and manga receiving their first official English release. emaqi Premium launched on July 1, 2026, and currently brings together more than 400 series and 2,000 volumes from over 10 publishers in the United States and Canada.

Dark emotions and strict office romance arrive first

Bloody Sugar Laughs at the Night begins the rollout on September 4 with all three volumes available through emaqi Premium. Created by Matsuri Mido and published by COAMIX, the series takes place in Dusky Dusk, a town plagued by “negativirus,” a strange illness fueled by people’s negative emotions.

Brothers Church and Jed can see the otherwise invisible afflictions and work as specialists treating those infected. Their medical mission is complicated by a more personal search: they are also looking for a particular strain that could help their younger sister, Basil. The result is a dark, sweet fantasy with a supernatural premise and a family mystery at its center.

The same day brings Misato Is a Little Too Strict with Her Pushover Boss, a three-volume workplace romantic comedy by Kurotama. Misato is a talented and striking office worker who regularly scolds her middle-aged boss, Mr. Konishikawa, for being too lenient with his subordinates. The sharper question is what may be hiding beneath her severe attitude, giving the age-gap office setup a potentially softer side.

Cooking stories take over the second week

September 11 adds two very different food-focused manga. In Masayasu Fukushima’s The Witch’s Soup, witch Eld Elflaim travels to the surface world hoping to save the Demon Realm. Her plan involves using a supposedly perfect poisoned soup to wipe out humanity, but everything changes after she tastes human cooking and becomes fascinated by its superior flavor.

The two-volume series is also part of emaqi Premium, making it an especially easy pick for readers who enjoy fantasy with a culinary hook.

Also arriving September 11 is Do Women Really Need Plastic Surgery? The Chaos Behind Cosmetic Surgery, a two-volume workplace comedy written from an original concept by Pachimi and illustrated by Bera Kaneko. The story follows Satomi Akagi, a newcomer working as a beauty-clinic nurse aide, as she encounters eccentric patients, colleagues recovering from procedures, and the less-discussed realities of cosmetic surgery.

Unlike the other September additions, this title will not be included with emaqi Premium and will instead be available separately.

Cats, survival meals, and Sengoku-era cuisine

Animal comedy gets the spotlight on September 11 with Thursdays with Furutto by Masakazu Ishiguro. The three-volume series centers on Furutto, a semi-stray cat, and his hapless owner, Kujirai-senpai. Its premise promises a quiet, low-key feline comedy rather than a high-stakes adventure, making it a natural change of pace within the month’s lineup.

On September 18, Hikaru Kusunoki’s three-volume CAT: The Heroic Warrior gives the isekai formula a deliberately adorable twist. Humanity summons a hero to face a newly awakened Demon King, only for the otherworldly champion to turn out to be an ordinary cat. In a world with no prior experience of cats, the creature quickly wins everyone over.

Yoshika Aki’s four-volume Midori’s Kitchen takes place after the world has been overtaken by carnivorous meat-plants. Sisters Midori and Sakura survive inside the logistics warehouse of a major mail-order company called “Jungle,” with Sakura unable to venture outdoors. Midori uses their scarce ingredients to recreate dishes connected to their memories, turning cooking into both a survival skill and a way to preserve their shared past.

The month closes on September 25 with the first three volumes of A Chef of Nobunaga, written by Mitsuru Nishimura and illustrated by Takurō Kajikawa. Modern chef Ken is transported to Japan’s Sengoku period and is eventually forced by Oda Nobunaga to serve as his personal chef. Alongside the historical culinary story, the release includes “Sengoku Eats” columns and recipes.

All of the new releases except Do Women Really Need Plastic Surgery? will be available through emaqi Premium. The service is also adding more than 70 volumes from existing emaqi-exclusive series during September, including From Bureaucrat to Villainess: Dad’s Been Reincarnated! volume 9, OUT volumes 12–18, and Rokudo’s Bad Girls volume 12.

With the first two releases arriving September 4, readers can start with either a supernatural illness mystery or a prickly office romance before the month shifts toward witches, cats, post-apocalyptic meals, and warlord-era cuisine. The broader question worth keeping an eye on is how quickly emaqi’s growing Premium catalog continues to bring unusual Japanese manga into official English circulation.
