Kotobukiya’s Arcanadea bishōjo plastic model series is heading to television, with a new teaser promotional video confirming a January 2027 premiere in Japan. The announcement also introduces the anime’s main staff and additional cast, expanding the sci-fi fantasy world beyond the characters longtime fans already know from the model-kit line.
The series will air on TV Asahi and 23 affiliated stations in the “NUMAnimation” programming block, for a total of 24 stations nationwide. It will also broadcast on BS Asahi. Kotobukiya is credited with the original work, while Yokohama Animation Lab will handle animation production.
The newly announced cast includes Nobunaga Shimazaki as Shōgo Kuga, Konomi Inagaki as Kaho Asagi, Mai Kanno as Rin Kirinoue, and Moka Kanzaki as Ghi. Kaede Hondo will return as Lumitea, a role she previously performed in the franchise’s short YuruCanadea four-panel manga videos.
A new story for the Arcanadea world
Arcanadea takes place in a near-future setting transformed by the discovery of a new energy source known as Arcana Particles. Eden Industries uses the technology to create Eden, the world’s largest virtual-space server, where users can play the fantasy VRMMO ARCANADEA.
That balance between advanced technology and fantasy is disrupted after an explosion occurs at Eden Industries during maintenance. In the aftermath, abnormal weather, communication failures, unexplained disappearances, and unusual increases in physical ability begin affecting the world.
The anime’s character setup centers on Shōgo, a university student who was once a highly skilled ARCANADEA player. He has since become withdrawn and unmotivated, but his life begins to change when Lumitea, an amnesiac member of the angelic “Dears,” suddenly appears before him and calls him “Master.”
According to the official anime character profiles, Lumitea is discovering the human world for the first time while trying to recover her memories. Kaho, meanwhile, is another “Dear Master” and a serious, considerate university student who works alongside the demon-type Velretta and beast-person Yukumo. Rin is both Ghi’s master and an active idol, adding another connection between the everyday world and the mysterious Dears.
Full creative team and returning voices
Keiichirō Kawaguchi is directing the anime at Yokohama Animation Lab. His previous credits include Sket Dance, Spy Classroom, and Psychic Squad.
Atsuhiro Tomioka, known for work on Pokémon XY, Trinity Blood, and Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest, is overseeing the series scripts. Kumoha Arakawa is adapting necömi’s original character designs for animation, while Yūki Hayashi and Yūki Furuhashi are composing the music. Hayashi’s credits include My Hero Academia and Haikyu!!, while Furuhashi also worked on My Hero Academia: Vigilantes.
The announced anime cast now includes Shimazaki as Shōgo Kuga, Hondo as Lumitea, Inagaki as Kaho Asagi, Miho Okasaki as Velretta, Rina Hidaka as Yukumo, Kanno as Rin Kirinoue, and Kanzaki as Ghi. The combination of established character voices and newly announced human leads gives the adaptation a clear ensemble focus.
From model kits to a multimedia franchise
Arcanadea launched in December 2021 as a Kotobukiya original plastic model series built around fantasy-themed characters designed by necömi. The franchise has since expanded into additional merchandise, ASMR CDs, and the official YuruCanadea four-panel manga.
Kotobukiya announced that the series had shipped more than 500,000 figures as of June 2025, marking a significant milestone before the television adaptation even reaches the screen. The company’s official product listings also continue to feature Arcanadea releases, including new and reproduction model kits tied to characters such as Lumitea, Velretta, Ghi, and Elena.
For longtime fans, the bigger question is how closely the anime will connect the model line’s character designs and setting to its own original story. With the teaser video now public and the main cast in place, the next details worth keeping an eye on are additional promotional footage, a more specific January broadcast date, and further information about the anime’s central mystery.
