Lavender-Ice’s Unwritten Death is heading to print. TokyoPop has acquired worldwide English- and Spanish-language publishing rights to the YA BL webtoon in a two-book deal, with the first graphic novel scheduled for publication in 2028. The news gives readers of digital comics another reason to watch the growing pipeline between webtoon platforms and traditional print publishing.

Reported by Bleeding Cool on May 19, 2026, the agreement was negotiated by Britt Siess and Katie Brackman of Britt Siess Creative Management, with Lena Atanassova acquiring the project for TokyoPop. The deal covers both English and Spanish editions, while the original Spanish version is known as Muerte no Escrita. A romance between a lonely boy and Death

Unwritten Death follows Adiel, a shy college student who possesses a frightening and isolating ability: he can see the afterlife. Although he tries to ignore what he sees, his carefully controlled life changes when he encounters Death, a lonely deity who longs for human affection and companionship.

The premise places emotional intimacy at the center of a supernatural mystery. Adiel and Death are connected by more than a strange meeting; both characters are defined by loneliness, and their relationship develops against a larger conflict involving supernatural forces and an impending “infernal catastrophe.” The official English-language synopsis describes the pair working together when a new threat places their world in danger. (WEBTOON) ([m.webtoons.com](https://m.webtoons.com/en/romance/muerte-no-escrita/list?title_no=3201))

That combination gives the series a flexible genre identity. It can appeal to BL readers looking for a relationship-driven story, while its afterlife mythology and looming danger offer a route into fantasy, drama, and darker supernatural fiction. The romance is not presented as a separate subplot pasted onto an adventure premise; connection appears to be the story’s emotional engine.

Why the print edition matters

The TokyoPop agreement is significant because Unwritten Death began as a digitally published comic built around the accessibility and immediacy of webtoon storytelling. Its print transition will ask the material to work in a different rhythm: readers will experience pages and chapters as a collected graphic novel rather than as a sequence designed for vertical scrolling.

That change can be especially interesting for a story about the boundary between ordinary life and the afterlife. Digital comics can use extended vertical space to control pauses, reveals, atmosphere, and sudden visual transitions. A print edition may reorganize that pacing into a more conventional page-turning experience, potentially emphasizing the series’ character work and supernatural imagery in a new way.

TokyoPop has not announced the first book’s exact publication date, page count, format, cover, pricing, or final retail details in the information currently available. The confirmed schedule is simply that the first volume is planned for 2028, as part of a two-book agreement. Readers may encounter more than one version

Availability for Unwritten Death is not limited to a single online listing. The English WEBTOON page credits the series to MaracuyasArt and currently marks it as completed, while also identifying it with LGBTQ+ and supernatural-adjacent tags such as “Ability User.” (WEBTOON) ([m.webtoons.com](https://m.webtoons.com/en/romance/muerte-no-escrita/list?title_no=3201))

Lavender Ice’s Spanish-language WEBTOON listing uses the title Muerte no Escrita+ and describes itself as the most updated and accurate version of the story. A separate Tapas listing also carries Unwritten Death under the creator name LavenderIce and labels it BL, romance, and drama. (WEBTOON; Tapas) ([m.webtoons.com](https://m.webtoons.com/es/canvas/muerte-no-escrita/list?title_no=741379))

For prospective readers, that means it is worth checking the title and version carefully before beginning. The listings do not all present the project in exactly the same way, and the Spanish “plus” version is specifically described by its official page as an updated iteration. The upcoming TokyoPop books may therefore become the most accessible way for print readers to encounter the story in a structured, collected format.

A promising fit for supernatural romance fans

At its strongest conceptual level, Unwritten Death stands out through the emotional contradiction at the heart of its setup: Adiel wants to escape the world beyond the living, while Death wants something deeply human. That reversal gives the central relationship an immediate tension. The character who represents mortality is the one yearning for affection, while the human protagonist is the one struggling to accept an existence shaped by the dead.

The series should be an appealing recommendation for readers who enjoy human-and-supernatural romances, melancholic fantasy, queer coming-of-age drama, and stories where intimacy develops under extraordinary circumstances. It may also interest readers who prefer BL narratives with a broader speculative conflict rather than a purely contemporary romantic setting.

There is no confirmed anime, live-action, or other screen adaptation attached to the announcement. For now, the important development is the print deal itself: TokyoPop plans to bring Lavender-Ice’s supernatural YA romance to English- and Spanish-language books, beginning with the first of two planned volumes in 2028. For webtoon readers, Unwritten Death is another example of a digital-first story receiving a chance to reach a new audience on the printed page.
