Bandai has revealed the first substantial details for NARUTO CARD GAME, a new strategy-focused trading card game spanning NARUTO, NARUTO: Shippuden, and BORUTO: NARUTO NEXT GENERATIONS. The game is scheduled for a simultaneous worldwide release in Summer 2027, with its first public tutorial sessions taking place at Gen Con 2026 in Indianapolis from July 30 through August 2. For fans who have followed Naruto through manga chapters, anime episodes, digital releases, and previous game adaptations, the announcement offers an early look at how the franchise’s rivalries, ninjutsu, and team-based battles will translate into a competitive tabletop format.

A Deck Built Around a Leader

Each player’s strategy begins with a Leader Card. The Leader determines a deck’s color and overall direction, making it more than a signature character placed at the center of the game. In practical terms, the choice of Leader appears designed to shape which Character Cards and effects can work together.

Players will use a deck containing 51 cards, alongside five Chakra cards and one Summon card. The win condition is direct: reduce the opposing Leader’s Life to zero. That structure should feel familiar to experienced trading-card-game players, while the Naruto terminology gives the system its own identity. ([naruto-cardgame.com](https://www.naruto-cardgame.com/en/welcome/))

The setup also points toward a game built around timing rather than simply deploying the strongest character available. Players must manage their Leader, battlefield, Chakra resources, and Summon card while trying to disrupt the opponent’s plan before their own Life total collapses.

Five Card Types Bring the Shinobi World to the Table

Bandai has confirmed five card types for the game. Character Cards form the primary fighting force and can activate Ninjutsu by spending Chakra. EX Character Cards are more powerful units that become playable after specific conditions are met, creating a built-in reward for players who successfully reach a particular game state.

Chakra Cards serve as the game’s resource system. They are used to activate Ninjutsu and other support effects, meaning resource management will likely be central to deciding when to defend, attack, or hold back a stronger play.

The fifth card type, Summon Cards, plays a distinctive role. The official overview explains that players rest their Summon card to bring a Character onto the battlefield. That makes the Summon card an important part of a deck’s flow rather than a decorative reference to Naruto’s summon techniques. ([naruto-cardgame.com](https://www.naruto-cardgame.com/en/welcome/))

Bandai has also highlighted face-down support cards that can be activated with Chakra. From a design perspective, this is one of the more intriguing early details: it suggests that reading the opponent’s intentions may matter almost as much as building an efficient board. The official website frames the experience around staying one move ahead and using Ninjutsu to stop attacks. ([naruto-cardgame.com](https://www.naruto-cardgame.com/en/welcome/))

Anime Moments Meet New Card Artwork

The first card reveals combine artwork adapted from the anime and manga with original illustrations created specifically for the card game. Early examples include Naruto Uzumaki, Sasuke Uchiha, Sakura Haruno, Jiraiya, Itachi Uchiha, Orochimaru, and Tsunade.

That mixture gives the game two visual entry points. Familiar scenes can appeal to longtime fans who want recognizable moments from the original story, while original illustrations give collectors something that is not simply a still image transferred onto cardboard. Bandai has cautioned that the product remains in development, so the displayed designs may change before release. ([naruto-cardgame.com](https://www.naruto-cardgame.com/en/?pubDate=20260618))

For a franchise with such a long visual history, the artwork will be especially important. Naruto’s strongest images are often tied to relationships and turning points: Naruto and Sasuke’s rivalry, the bonds between members of Team 7, and the legacy carried by characters such as Jiraiya and Itachi. A card game that can preserve that emotional context alongside its competitive mechanics may appeal to both players and fans who primarily collect.

From Gen Con to a Worldwide Competitive Scene

Gen Con 2026 is the game’s first public testing ground. Attendees can participate in free tutorial sessions at the Bandai Card Games booth, with promotional gifts available for participants. The event is taking place from July 30 to August 2, 2026, marking the first opportunity for the public to learn the rules directly through a hands-on demonstration. ([gencon.com](https://www.gencon.com/events/331317?utm_source=openai))

Bandai’s roadmap continues through several major conventions. Planned appearances include New York Comic Con, PAX Australia, Spiel Essen, Paris Games Week, Lucca Comics & Games, and BANDAI CARD GAMES Fest events beginning in October 2026. More information is expected at New York Comic Con, while the worldwide release remains scheduled for Summer 2027. ([naruto-cardgame.com](https://www.naruto-cardgame.com/en/welcome/))

The company has also confirmed plans for organized play after launch, from local store events to larger tournaments leading toward a World Championship. That commitment matters because the game is being presented not merely as a Naruto collectible product, but as a long-term competitive title with room for structured play and evolving deck strategies.

Why the Early Details Matter

The most promising aspect of the reveal is the attempt to connect recognizable Naruto ideas with mechanics that appear to reward planning. Leaders establish a deck’s identity, Chakra controls the use of techniques, Summons help bring characters into battle, and face-down support cards introduce an element of deception. These systems give the franchise more than a cosmetic role in the game.

It is still too early to judge balance, pacing, card rarity, or the size of the launch collection. Those details will determine whether NARUTO CARD GAME becomes a welcoming entry point for beginners, a serious option for competitive players, or primarily a collector-focused release. For now, Bandai has established a clear foundation: a full-franchise Naruto card game with a defined rules structure, a convention-based preview schedule, and a global launch planned for next summer.

With tutorial sessions now beginning at Gen Con and additional announcements planned throughout late 2026 and early 2027, the next stage will be seeing whether the game’s mechanics can deliver the same sense of momentum, rivalry, and tactical surprise that made Naruto’s battles so memorable on the page and screen.
