Marvel’s Deadpool and Punisher are heading toward a violent collision in “Big Guns,” a four-part crossover written by Benjamin Percy. The announcement gives readers a clearer look at what Percy was teasing in April, when he suggested that his work on Marvel’s street-level antiheroes could eventually force them into the same story.

The crossover will unfold across Wade Wilson: Deadpool and Punisher, bringing together two characters who may share a taste for heavy weaponry but have very different ideas about justice. For fans following Percy’s current Marvel work, “Big Guns” represents a natural escalation of the writer’s parallel runs on both characters.

Benjamin Percy’s Earlier Tease Finally Pays Off

During X-Men Monday #337 in April, Percy was asked about the possibility of Deadpool interacting with other Marvel heroes. He responded with a tease about pushing characters together because “the math” made sense, while stressing that it was not yet an official announcement.

That comment now reads as an early hint at “Big Guns.” Rather than pairing Wade Wilson with another wisecracking hero, Percy is setting him against Frank Castle, a character whose grim, uncompromising approach creates an immediate contrast with Deadpool’s chaotic humor and regenerative resilience.

AIPT’s August 1 call for questions confirms that Percy will return to X-Men Monday to discuss the crossover, along with the ongoing Wade Wilson: Deadpool series and Marvel’s current Punisher title. Readers were invited to submit questions ahead of the feature, with the deadline set for Sunday, August 2, 2026, at 8 p.m. ET.

What Readers Know About “Big Guns”

Marvel’s crossover is structured as a four-issue story split between the two ongoing series. The opening chapter is scheduled for Wade Wilson: Deadpool #8 on September 2, 2026, followed by Punisher #8 on September 9. The story will continue in the ninth issues of both books during October, with Punisher #9 expected to provide the conclusion.

Benjamin Percy is writing the full crossover, while Geoff Shaw handles the Deadpool chapters and José Luis Soares draws the Punisher installments. That division gives the event an opportunity to preserve the visual identities of both series while maintaining a single narrative voice across the four chapters.

The published premise is suitably direct: Deadpool’s latest mess puts him in Frank Castle’s sights just as Wade takes on one of the biggest jobs of his career. The details of that job, the nature of the conflict and the identity of the story’s larger threat remain limited, keeping the focus on the central confrontation without giving away the crossover’s major surprises.

A Street-Level Clash With Very Different Rules

Deadpool and Punisher have crossed paths before, but the pairing remains effective because the characters operate from opposing philosophies. Wade can be reckless, theatrical and morally inconsistent, often treating danger as another opportunity for a joke. Frank, by contrast, approaches violence as a mission, with discipline and personal conviction driving every decision.

That difference should give Percy plenty of room to shift between dark humor and brutal action. Deadpool’s healing factor allows him to survive punishment that would end most people, while Punisher’s advantage comes from preparation, firearms and tactical experience. The result is a matchup where neither character needs to be transformed into a conventional superhero for the conflict to feel significant.

The crossover also arrives at an important point in Percy’s Marvel work. His Wade Wilson: Deadpool series has emphasized the character’s damaged humanity beneath the jokes, while the broader direction of the book has leaned into smaller-scale problems, personal consequences and dangerous jobs. Placing that version of Deadpool opposite Frank Castle could test whether Wade’s humor is a coping mechanism, a weapon or both.

For Punisher readers, the story offers a different kind of challenge. Frank is accustomed to facing criminals, conspiracies and heavily armed enemies, but Deadpool’s unpredictability makes him difficult to control. Wade may be impossible to intimidate, impossible to permanently kill and impossible to trust, creating the sort of target who can turn a carefully planned operation into complete chaos.

Why the Crossover Matters for Collectors

“Big Guns” is likely to attract readers from both ongoing titles because it is not being presented as a detached special or unrelated one-shot. The story runs directly through the regular series, which makes the individual chapters important for anyone collecting Percy’s current Deadpool and Punisher material.

The opening issue of Wade Wilson: Deadpool #8 is scheduled to launch the story, with Punisher #8 following one week later. Collectors interested in completing the crossover will need to track both titles across September and October, while readers who primarily follow one series may find themselves encouraged to pick up the companion book.

Marvel has also announced connecting variant covers for the crossover chapters, illustrated by Josemaria Casanovas. Those covers add another incentive for collectors, particularly fans building a complete run of the event or looking for visual pieces that link the Deadpool and Punisher issues together.

The Questions Still Waiting for Answers

Although the central setup is clear, Percy’s upcoming return to X-Men Monday could reveal how closely “Big Guns” connects to the ongoing stories in both series. Readers may also learn more about the crossover’s villain, the nature of Deadpool’s new assignment and how much the conflict changes the status quo for Wade and Frank.

For now, the confirmed appeal is straightforward: two Marvel antiheroes, one writer guiding both sides of the story and a crossover built around the clash between Deadpool’s anarchic energy and Punisher’s grim precision. “Big Guns” begins September 2, 2026, with Wade Wilson: Deadpool #8.
