RedOctane Games is bringing Stage Tour to comics through an exclusive Dark Horse one-shot debuting at San Diego Comic-Con 2026. The partnership gives the upcoming rhythm game a new storytelling platform, introducing comic readers to the bandmates and world behind the game while offering collectors a limited convention exclusive.

The announcement arrives alongside hands-on gameplay, a first look at the official Kramer Guitar Controller, a confirmed platform lineup, and an expanded soundtrack. For fans who grew up with Guitar Hero and Rock Band, Stage Tour is positioning itself as both a nostalgic return to plastic-instrument rhythm gaming and a modern evolution of the format.

Dark Horse Takes the Stage

The Stage Tour comic will be a special one-shot created specifically to expand the game’s universe. While story details remain under wraps, RedOctane Games has confirmed that the issue will focus on the bandmates who help shape the world beyond the playable music experience.

Kim Hu provides the cover art, with Zoe Tunnell writing, Liana Kangas handling interior art, Diana Sousa on colors, and Comicraft’s Tyler Smith lettering. The lineup gives the project a creative team with experience across licensed comics, creator-owned work, and genre-driven storytelling.

For comic readers, the most interesting element may be the format itself. Rather than simply adapting a game’s existing plot, the one-shot appears designed to deepen the setting and personalities surrounding Stage Tour. That makes it potentially useful as an entry point for new fans while also giving players additional context for the game’s performers.

The limited-edition comic will be available to San Diego Comic-Con attendees while supplies last at both the Stage Tour booth, number 2834, and the Dark Horse Comics booth, number 2615. It will also be offered as a free bonus collectible with future Stage Tour hardware bundle pre-orders.

A Rhythm Game Built for Modern Platforms

RedOctane Games has confirmed that Stage Tour is in development for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC. A Holiday 2026 release is planned, with Steam wishlisting already available and PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S wishlists and pre-orders expected to follow.

The game combines familiar five-fret rhythm gameplay with newer progression and customization systems. Players will be able to form a band, customize their performers, and take the stage as a guitarist, bassist, drummer, or vocalist.

Input options are intended to make the game flexible for different kinds of players. Compatible guitar controllers, drum kits, microphones, standard gamepads, and keyboards will all be supported, allowing Stage Tour to appeal beyond the audience that already owns dedicated rhythm-game hardware.

The official Stage Tour website also describes a roguelite Campaign mode in which players progress through increasingly larger stages during a run. That structure could give the game a stronger sense of forward momentum than the traditional song-list format, although RedOctane has not yet revealed the full details of how the campaign will work.

Hands-On Gameplay and a New Kramer Controller

Comic-Con attendees will have the opportunity to play the latest closed alpha build at custom arcade cabinets developed with Paradox Arcades. The demo will include previously announced songs and gameplay refinements influenced by feedback from IGN Live attendees and closed alpha testers.

That public-facing test will be an important step for a game attempting to revive a genre that has been largely absent from the mainstream console conversation. Rhythm games depend heavily on feel, timing, interface clarity, and controller responsiveness, so hands-on demonstrations can communicate more than a trailer ever could.

RedOctane will also showcase pre-production units of the officially licensed Kramer Guitar Controller. Built around the classic Kramer guitar design, the controller is meant to connect Stage Tour to the hardware-driven identity that helped define earlier music games.

The controller’s presence is especially notable because RedOctane Games is being developed by a team that includes veterans of the original Guitar Hero and DJ Hero eras, along with members of the broader rhythm-game development community. The studio has also partnered with Gibson, bringing Gibson, Epiphone, and Kramer instruments into the game through official licensing.

Sixteen Songs, With More on the Way

The announced soundtrack currently includes sixteen tracks spanning rock, metal, alternative, pop-punk, and newer acts. The confirmed lineup is:

  • “RATATATA” — BABYMETAL and Electric Callboy
  • “Get The Funk Out” — Extreme
  • “Square Hammer” — Ghost
  • “Mimi’s Delivery Service” — Good Kid
  • “Dani California” — Red Hot Chili Peppers
  • “Terminator Oscillator” — Static-X
  • “Island In The Sun” — Weezer
  • “Bite Me” — Avril Lavigne
  • “Airhead” — Honey Revenge
  • “For a Pessimist, I’m Pretty Optimistic” — Paramore
  • “The Unknowing” — Jfarrari
  • “Jane!” — The Long Faces
  • “Do Me Like That” — The Paradox
  • “Siren” — Castle Rat
  • “Broken Dreams Inc.” — Rise Against
  • “Psychosocial” — Slipknot

The selection balances recognizable catalog favorites with artists who may be less familiar to longtime rhythm-game players. That approach gives Stage Tour an opportunity to function as both a nostalgia-driven experience and a discovery platform for newer music.

A Comic-Con Test Run Before Launch

There is no critical response to the Dark Horse one-shot yet, since the comic is scheduled to debut at San Diego Comic-Con. Its immediate appeal is likely to be strongest among collectors, fans of licensed game comics, and players interested in learning more about the characters who populate the Stage Tour universe.

More broadly, the Comic-Con presentation gives RedOctane Games a chance to demonstrate whether Stage Tour can translate the communal energy of live music into a contemporary rhythm-game package. The combination of a collectible comic, custom arcade hardware, licensed instruments, and a growing soundtrack suggests a broader entertainment identity rather than a standalone game release.

With additional music, hardware details, pre-orders, and the official release date still to come, Stage Tour is building toward its Holiday 2026 launch one announcement at a time. For comic fans, the Dark Horse one-shot is the first opportunity to see whether the game’s musical world can carry a story of its own.
