Hiya Toys is bringing one of the most distinctive designs from the Heisei era back to collectors with a new Battle Damaged Mecha King Ghidorah figure based on Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah (1991). Standing approximately 13 inches tall, the Exquisite Basic Series release combines the character’s imposing three-headed silhouette with torn wings, exposed damage, a capture machine hand, restraint cables, and multiple gravity-beam effects.

The announcement is notable because Mecha King Ghidorah remains one of the most visually unusual versions of the character. It is part living monster, part futuristic weapon system, and part battle-damaged relic. Hiya’s release is also positioned as a large-format action figure rather than a compact standard-scale monster, giving it the kind of shelf presence usually associated with premium display pieces.

A Shinjuku Showdown Display Piece

The figure recreates Mecha King Ghidorah after the climactic battle in Tokyo, where the cyborg Ghidorah is deployed against Godzilla. Its design features golden organic scales contrasted with silver-gray mechanical armor, giving the character a more industrial appearance than a conventional King Ghidorah figure.

Hiya Toys has emphasized the torn and punctured wings, damaged armor, and weathered surface treatment. Those details should give the figure a much more aggressive visual identity than the clean version of the 1991 character. Rather than simply looking like an alternate paint scheme, the battle-damaged release is built around the idea of a monster that has already endured a devastating final confrontation.

At approximately 33 centimeters tall, Mecha King Ghidorah should dominate a Godzilla display. The spread-wing silhouette will likely require more vertical and horizontal shelf clearance than the height specification alone suggests, particularly for collectors planning a diorama-style arrangement with Godzilla, ruined buildings, or other Shinjuku battle elements.

Mechanical Details and Articulation

The official product information describes the figure as having multiple points of articulation, although a complete joint breakdown has not been published. The design appears to retain the articulated approach associated with Hiya Toys’ larger kaiju releases, allowing the heads, necks, tails, wings, and mechanical components to be adjusted for display.

That flexibility should be useful for recreating the character’s distinctive flight and attack poses, but collectors should keep expectations realistic. A large three-headed monster with expansive wings and several long tails is inherently more difficult to pose than a humanoid action figure. The final balance between sculpt fidelity and practical articulation will be one of the most important factors once production samples reach collectors.

The battle damage itself may also affect posing. Torn wing sections and exposed mechanical areas are excellent for visual storytelling, but they can make a figure feel more specialized toward a dramatic final-battle display than a neutral standing pose. That is not necessarily a weakness; it simply places this release firmly in the category of a scene-specific version rather than an all-purpose Mecha King Ghidorah.

Accessories Built Around the Godzilla Battle

Hiya Toys is giving the figure a strong accessory lineup for its intended display theme. Included are a detachable capture machine hand, four restraint cables with attachment clamps, and three gravity-beam effect parts in yellow, green, and red.

The capture equipment is particularly important because it represents one of Mecha King Ghidorah’s signature functions in the film. The abdominal armor cover can be removed and the side armor hatches opened to install the cables and related parts. This gives collectors the option of displaying the figure in a more mechanical, weapon-deployment configuration instead of leaving the torso fully closed.

The colored beam effects are a welcome inclusion as well. They should add visual variety to the display and help distinguish the three heads when the figure is posed in an attack sequence. The combination of beam parts and restraint cables makes this a more complete battle recreation package than a basic figure with only interchangeable hands.

One point collectors should note is that the official description does not indicate that a clean set of replacement wings is included. That makes the release more committed to the damaged final-battle appearance. Collectors who want both a standard and damaged version may still prefer to purchase the clean Mecha King Ghidorah separately, assuming they have the space and budget for two large figures.

How It Fits the Existing Mecha King Ghidorah Market

The most obvious comparison is Bandai’s S.H.MonsterArts Mecha King Ghidorah Decisive Battle Set. That release stands at approximately 25 centimeters and includes both regular and damaged wings, along with additional mechanical arm parts and display support equipment. Hiya’s upcoming figure is taller at roughly 33 centimeters and appears to focus more heavily on the damaged version as a complete standalone display.

That difference in scale could be a major selling point. Hiya’s Godzilla releases generally appeal to collectors who want substantial shelf presence without moving into the price range of large static statues. At the same time, the S.H.MonsterArts offering has the advantage of interchangeable wing configurations and a longer-established presence in the collector market.

Hiya Toys has also built a strong reputation among kaiju collectors for detailed sculpts and screen-inspired paint work across its Godzilla lineup. Collector discussions surrounding the company’s 1991 Ghidorah releases frequently highlight the sculpt, surface detail, and visual impact, while also acknowledging that large Ghidorah figures can be cumbersome to pose and display. Those observations are relevant here, although they should not be treated as a hands-on review of this unreleased Mecha King Ghidorah.

Price, Release Timing, and Collector Verdict

Hiya Toys lists the Battle Damaged Mecha King Ghidorah at a suggested retail price of $126.99, with the U.S. price listed at $151.99 including tariff costs. Entertainment Earth has also listed the figure at $151.99, with an estimated July 2027 arrival, while Hiya’s own product information gives the broader release window as the second quarter of 2027.

The release date remains far enough away that production samples, final packaging, and retailer delivery estimates may change. As with other large collectible figures, collectors placing a preorder should treat the current window as an estimate rather than a guarantee.

At this price, the figure is clearly aimed at dedicated Godzilla collectors rather than casual buyers. The combination of large scale, battle-damaged sculpting, mechanical detailing, effects, and scene-specific accessories gives it considerable display value. The main question is whether the final engineering can support the wide-winged, multi-tailed design without making the figure frustrating to handle.

Collector verdict: this looks especially appealing for fans of the 1991 film, Heisei-era Godzilla collectors, and anyone building a large-scale Shinjuku battle display. Collectors who want a clean, neutral Mecha King Ghidorah may be better served by the standard version, but those seeking a dramatic centerpiece should find the damaged configuration considerably more characterful.
