Godzilla Minus Zero is officially stomping into UK and Irish cinemas this autumn, with Anime Limited and TOHO Global confirming a theatrical release beginning Friday, November 6, 2026. The follow-up to Takashi Yamazaki’s Oscar-winning Godzilla Minus One will screen in IMAX and cinemas across both territories.

The announcement gives fans a firm date for one of 2026’s biggest Japanese film releases. Details about the story remain tightly under wraps, but Yamazaki is returning in his full creative role as director, screenwriter, and visual effects supervisor.

Godzilla Minus Zero will be shown in Japanese with English subtitles. A teaser trailer has also been released, while additional information is expected to arrive closer to the film’s theatrical run.

A near-simultaneous global Godzilla release

The UK and Ireland opening follows the Japanese release on Tuesday, November 3, 2026. That date is especially significant for the franchise, as it marks the anniversary of the original Godzilla film’s Japanese premiere in 1954 and is celebrated annually as Godzilla Day.

North America is also scheduled to receive the movie on November 6, creating one of the closest international rollouts ever for a Japan-produced Godzilla feature. According to TOHO’s release information, the near-simultaneous launch represents a first for the long-running Japanese Godzilla series.

For longtime fans, the timing is a welcome change from the lengthy gaps that have historically separated Japanese premieres from overseas releases. This time, audiences in Japan, the United Kingdom, Ireland, and North America will be able to experience the new film within the same week.

Takashi Yamazaki returns after Minus One’s historic success

Expectations are high following the remarkable reception for Godzilla Minus One. Released in 2023, the film became a global success and earned more than £2.6 million at the UK and Ireland box office, making it Anime Limited’s highest-grossing film to date.

The movie also made history at the 96th Academy Awards, where it won Best Visual Effects. It was the first Asian film to take home that award, and the victory marked the first Oscar win for a Godzilla movie.

Yamazaki’s return gives Godzilla Minus Zero a clear creative connection to its predecessor. While the title suggests that the new film may continue the same postwar perspective and thematic approach, the available announcement does not reveal how its story will follow the events of Godzilla Minus One. That mystery is likely to remain one of the film’s biggest selling points for now.

Godzilla gets the IMAX treatment

The bigger surprise is the film’s format. Godzilla Minus Zero is described as the first Japanese production to be Filmed For IMAX, as well as the first Toho-produced Godzilla film to receive that distinction.

That makes the November cinema release particularly notable. Yamazaki’s previous film was praised for delivering enormous kaiju spectacle without the scale of a Hollywood blockbuster, and the IMAX presentation should give the new production an even larger canvas for its monster action and visual effects.

The film will be released exclusively in cinemas and IMAX locations across the UK and Ireland from November 6. With no streaming release announced, the theatrical experience will be the only confirmed way for local audiences to see Godzilla Minus Zero when it first arrives.

Anime Limited and TOHO Global are expected to share more details as the release approaches, including further trailer material and cinema information. For now, fans can mark November 6, 2026, on their calendars and keep an eye on the official UK updates for ticketing and screening announcements.
