Image Comics and Tiny Onion are expanding the world of Exquisite Corpses with Exquisite Corpses: Lone Gunman, a five-issue miniseries arriving in November. The new series places one of the horror saga’s most dangerous figures at the center of the story while following the survivors of season one into the aftermath of the bloodshed.

For readers invested in James Tynion IV and Michael Walsh’s ongoing horror experiment, Lone Gunman is positioned as more than a character-focused side story. Writer Pornsak Pichetshote describes it as “Season 1.5,” a bridge between the first season and the forthcoming second season that will expand the mythology surrounding the golden mask and the powerful 13 Families.

A final spinoff before season two

Lone Gunman is the third and final spinoff connected to the first season of Exquisite Corpses, following Rascal Randy and Fox Mask Killer. Each miniseries runs for five issues, giving the franchise room to explore individual killers and corners of its larger conspiracy without interrupting the main series’ central story.

The new book moves forward two years after the events of season one. Laura, Xavi, and Jason are attempting to establish new lives away from the 13 Families, but the trauma of the deadly game has not disappeared. Laura may have survived as the Last Gunman, yet survival has left its own scars—and the history of the golden mask threatens to draw all three characters back into danger.

That setup gives the series a different horror engine from the original story. The first season centered on a brutal contest involving twelve killers and an isolated town. Lone Gunman begins after the game, when the immediate violence has ended but the survivors must reckon with the system that created it.

Pichetshote returns to the Corpse Crew

Pichetshote was part of the original “Corpse Crew” of writers who helped shape the first season. His return gives Lone Gunman a direct creative connection to the main series, while also allowing him to focus on the character he has called one of his favorite killers.

The writer has framed the miniseries as an exploration of the “ultimate Final Girl” story: what happens when someone survives an almost impossible slasher scenario and is then forced to investigate the organization behind the violence. That approach could make the book accessible to readers who have not followed every chapter of the first season, while longtime fans will have a deeper reason to examine the golden mask and the 13 Families.

Pichetshote also connected the project to ideas he has been exploring in his work on DC’s Absolute Green Arrow, particularly stories about the victims of wealthy and powerful people who eventually find ways to recover, resist, and retaliate. In Lone Gunman, those concerns are being redirected toward serial killers, billionaires, and a secret history that has influenced the course of America.

A grimy visual approach

Alberto Ponticelli provides the art, reuniting with Pichetshote after their previous collaboration on Unknown Soldier. He will be joined by colorist Jordie Bellaire and letterer Becca Carey.

Ponticelli has described his approach as visually rough and heavily textured, using “dirty marks” to match the story’s unsettling subject matter. That aesthetic sounds like a natural fit for a series dealing with traumatized survivors, hidden power structures, and the lingering contamination of a slasher’s legacy.

Bellaire’s colors should provide an important counterpoint to Ponticelli’s rough linework. The first season of Exquisite Corpses has established a heightened horror world where brutality and stylization exist side by side, and the creative team on Lone Gunman appears poised to preserve that intensity while shifting the focus toward psychological aftermath and conspiracy.

Cover lineup and collector appeal

Exquisite Corpses: Lone Gunman #1 will feature a main cover by Ponticelli and Bellaire, with variant covers by Rafael Albuquerque, Leandro Fernandez, Chris Brunner, Sebastian Fiumara, and Michael Walsh. A blank sketch cover will also be available.

Walsh’s variant will be polybagged with a collectible trading card connected to Exquisite Corpses: The Game. That edition is likely to attract collectors who have been following the franchise’s trading-card program, as well as readers who enjoy the increasingly elaborate cover offerings associated with Image’s breakout horror titles.

The first issue is scheduled to arrive at comic book shops on Wednesday, November 4, 2026. The announced lineup includes Cover A by Ponticelli and Bellaire, Cover B by Albuquerque, Walsh’s polybagged card variant, Fernandez’s 1:25 incentive cover, Brunner’s 1:50 cover, Fiumara’s 1:100 cover, and the blank sketch edition.

Building a larger horror universe

The original Exquisite Corpses launched from Image Comics and Tiny Onion in May 2025 as a 13-issue first-season story created by Tynion and Walsh. Its unusual structure passed the storytelling baton among different creators, echoing the collaborative “exquisite corpse” game that gives the series its name.

The franchise has also expanded into collected editions. Image has released trade paperback volumes covering the first season, giving new readers a way to catch up before the spinoffs and second season continue the mythology.

According to the announcement, Exquisite Corpses has sold more than 700,000 issues to date, while a feature-film adaptation remains in development from Tiny Onion and Lyrical Media. An anthology titled Exquisite Corpses: Book of the Dead is also planned before season two.

For now, Lone Gunman represents the franchise’s clearest opportunity to examine what happens after the killing stops. Its story of survivors, masks, inherited power, and retaliation could give Exquisite Corpses a more intimate direction while laying groundwork for whatever comes next.

Exquisite Corpses: Lone Gunman #1 arrives in comic book shops on November 4, 2026.
