Marvel’s Spider-Man: Long Way Home continues its five-issue limited series with a second chapter built around a dangerous three-way pursuit. Written by Jonathan Hickman and illustrated by Adam Kubert, the issue sends Spider-Man into the jungles of South America after the Cosmic Cube, putting him directly between Frank Castle and the Hulk. For readers, the appeal is clear: three of Marvel’s most recognizable characters are being pushed into an unusually brutal, continuity-light adventure.

A Cosmic Cube Hunt Turns Into a Survival Story

Issue #2 opens with the Punisher already in possession of the Cosmic Cube. Frank Castle’s objective is straightforward in theory: keep the powerful artifact away from anyone who might misuse it. The problem is that he is alone in hostile territory, and his mission has already attracted the attention of a massive green threat.

According to the preview, Hulk has wiped out Frank’s squad and is now pursuing him through the South American jungle. That setup immediately gives the issue a grim survivalist edge. Castle is not simply trying to protect the Cube; he is attempting to stay alive long enough to keep it out of enemy hands.

Spider-Man adds another complication. Tasked by S.H.I.E.L.D. with acquiring the Cosmic Cube, Peter Parker enters the conflict as an agent pursuing the same objective as Hulk, though for very different reasons. The result is a volatile triangle in which nobody appears to have complete control of the situation.

Hickman and Kubert Step Outside Mainline Continuity

Marvel has described Long Way Home as a story that exists apart from the regular Marvel Universe, giving Hickman and Kubert room to reshape the relationships between Spider-Man, Hulk, and Punisher without being restricted by current continuity. That approach should make the series accessible to readers who may not be following every ongoing Spider-Man, Hulk, or Punisher title.

It also allows the creative team to focus on the core personalities of the characters. Spider-Man remains the mission-driven hero caught in an escalating crisis. Hulk represents overwhelming physical danger. Punisher, meanwhile, occupies the most uncertain position: he may be the target of the hunt, but the solicitation warns that the prey could prove more dangerous than the predators.

That final idea is especially important to the issue’s hook. Frank Castle is often portrayed as the most grounded figure in a super-powered conflict, but his military training, weaponry, and willingness to cross moral lines make him a serious threat even when facing extraordinary opponents. The Cosmic Cube only raises the stakes.

Adam Kubert’s Art Promises a Hard-Hitting Showcase

Adam Kubert serves as both artist and cover artist, reuniting with Hickman for a story designed around momentum, scale, and physical danger. The premise naturally calls for contrasting action styles: Spider-Man’s agility, Hulk’s raw force, and Punisher’s tactical precision all need to occupy the same battlefield without losing their individual identities.

Kubert’s involvement is also a major draw for collectors and longtime Marvel readers. His work has frequently emphasized powerful silhouettes, kinetic movement, and expressive character acting, qualities that suit a story built around a jungle pursuit and an unstable alliance. The setting gives him room to balance wide environmental scenes with close-quarters violence.

Hickman has said that the series was developed using the Marvel Method, with Kubert taking a significant role in breaking the story into pages and panels before the dialogue was completed. That collaboration could make the issue feel especially visual, with the storytelling shaped around action and atmosphere as much as exposition.

Release Details and Collector Appeal

Spider-Man: Long Way Home #2 is scheduled for release from Marvel on July 22, 2026. The issue is listed at 32 pages with a cover price of $5.99 and a Teen rating. It is the second installment of a five-issue limited series.

The issue’s cover is credited to Kubert, with Arthur Hesli credited for cover colors on Marvel’s official listing. Additional variant editions have also been solicited, including covers associated with artists such as Marcos Martín, Dike Ruan, and Geoff Shaw. Those variants may give collectors several different entry points, particularly for readers drawn to Spider-Man, Punisher, or Hulk-focused imagery.

At this stage, Marvel has not announced a collected edition for the full series. That is not unusual for a limited series still in publication, and readers interested in a future trade paperback will likely need to wait for a later catalog announcement.

Why This Issue Stands Out

The strongest feature of the preview is its clean, immediately understandable conflict. Frank Castle has the Cosmic Cube. Hulk wants him. Spider-Man has been ordered to retrieve the artifact. Each character brings a different kind of danger to the same pursuit, creating the potential for shifting alliances and sudden reversals.

For new readers, the out-of-continuity structure offers a straightforward way into the story. For longtime Marvel fans, the series provides a chance to see familiar characters placed in a harsher, more unpredictable environment. The combination of Hickman’s high-concept plotting and Kubert’s action-focused artwork makes the second issue one to watch as the series moves toward its larger confrontation.

What happens when Spider-Man and Hulk discover that Frank Castle is not merely carrying the most powerful object in the jungle, but may also be the most dangerous person in it? Readers will begin to find out when the issue arrives in comic shops and on digital platforms.
