Mayonaka Heart Tune is tuning back in for a second season in 2027, and the new installment has added two more voices to its growing cast. Ami Koshimizu and Kaede Hondo will play sisters Riina Yamabuki and Mito Yamabuki, respectively, while a new teaser visual gives fans an early look at what comes next.
The announcement arrives after the first season began airing on January 6, 2026. Produced by Gekkou, the anime adaptation of Masakuni Igarashi’s showbiz-themed romantic comedy has also been available internationally through Crunchyroll, which streamed the series with subtitles in multiple languages alongside an English dub.
Two More Voices Join the Cast
Ami Koshimizu joins the series as Riina Yamabuki, with Kaede Hondo voicing Mito Yamabuki. Their character details have not yet been revealed, so the sisters’ connection to Arisu and the members of Furin High School’s broadcasting club remains under wraps for now.
For longtime anime fans, both additions bring recognizable voices to the production. Koshimizu is known for roles including Holo in Spice and Wolf, while Hondo has appeared in series such as Wandering Witch: The Journey of Elaina. Their casting expands the anime’s already substantial voice lineup as the story moves toward its second chapter.
The new season’s announcement also came with a second teaser visual. While the artwork offers another preview of the continuation, the production has not announced a more specific premiere window than 2027.
The Story Behind the Midnight Broadcast
Mayonaka Heart Tune, also known in English as Tune In to the Midnight Heart, follows Arisu Yamabuki, a wealthy high school student determined to become perfect. The one thing he believes he is missing is connected to a late-night radio-style livestream hosted by a mysterious girl known only as “Apollo.”
Apollo’s voice once helped Arisu through lonely nights, but she suddenly stopped broadcasting without telling him why. Years later, he enrolls at Furin High School, where he encounters four girls pursuing careers involving the power of voice: singer Rikka Inohana, aspiring voice actress Nene Himekawa, VTuber Iko Kirino, and future announcer Shinobu Uzuki.
Each girl may have a connection to Apollo, but none of them makes the mystery easy to solve. Arisu therefore promises to help all four achieve their dreams while searching for the person behind the voice that changed his life.
That blend of romance, school comedy, radio culture, pop music, voice acting, and VTubers gives the series a particularly modern hook. It also means the second season has plenty of character and performance-driven storylines to explore beyond the central question of Apollo’s identity.
Returning Staff and Manga Availability
Masayuki Takahashi will return to direct the second season at Gekkou. The returning creative team also includes series composer Yukie Sugawara, character designer Tomoyuki Shitaya, music composer Kuniyuki Takahashi, and sound director Yuuichi Morita.
The anime adapts Igarashi’s manga, which began serialization in Kodansha’s Weekly Shōnen Magazine in September 2023. Kodansha published the manga’s 13th Japanese volume on May 15, with volume 14 scheduled for release on August 17.
English-language readers can follow the series through Kodansha USA, which licensed the manga in July 2024. The English edition’s seventh volume was released on May 5, and Kodansha also continues to simulpublish chapters through its K Manga app and website.
With Riina and Mito now joining the cast, the next major update to watch for is a fuller character reveal, along with more information about the second season’s story and eventual 2027 broadcast timing. Until then, the mystery of Apollo—and the role the new Yamabuki sisters will play—remains one of the series’ biggest unanswered questions.
